| Looks like one of the clusters is still in the 2 - 2.5k for population, maybe I should give it a shot. God I had so much fun on my eldritch. Was the perfect caster, powerful nukes, AoE's, great CC, could solo (not 'quite' as well as a sorcerer, but almost), very desireable for 8 mans, and great in siege. I miss DAOC The graphics are a little dated, but the setting was awesome, so much atmosphere. I have a massive hardon for european mythology and the arthur story, so that probably helps. Listening to the music that was linked earlier gave me goosebumps. |

| DAoC was still the most fun PvP game ever for a set team. It was incredibly unbalanced and insanely cheesy at times but goddamned if it was not fun as a hell-bent 8-man rolling 40+ zergs. I doubt that setting will ever happen again (and rightly so) but domination was great enjoyment for the relatively few that were doing so. Ah DAoC, so many developer lessons to be learned from that game! I can't see going back but I certainly have fond memories. |

+1 Internets | i dunno i think daocs zergbusting mechanics are fine. there are a lot of incentives for group combat rather than zerging. speed6, sos/bof/group RAs, more points per kill, aoe mez... a coordinated group could knock out 50 guys 1 at a time with a few good aoe stuns & mez. its a ton better than warhammer where ya just mash aoe and kill everyone at once |

| Yeah but that was the problem really. FreeRP used to run mostly eight-mans and rolled bigger groups (often much, much bigger groups) on a consistent basis. Fun to roll, less fun to be rolled. These days the emphasis is more on the most fun for the most people and getting your zerg destroyed by a force 10-20% your size was quite frankly, not fun for the catchers. Pitching was great fun though, as I said. |

| Nobody will deny that DAoC is on its last leg. In fact, I played a couple of years ago for a bit on the Classic cluster when they had some promotion, and when I came back a week or so ago was shocked that the population had literally 98% disappeared. I believe, however, that if Mythic/EA was to open a new, fresh DAoC server that they'd garner vastly more new subs for at least a couple of months than if they opened a new WAR server (e.g., a few thousand as compared to none). If SoE can open a new EQ server when they know they'll only get a couple of thousand subs for a few months, I don't see why Mythic doesn't do the same. As you say, this new cluster/Ywain thing is nothing more than a cost-cutting move and offers nothing new to attract new/old players to DAoC. By the way, stop sending me DAoC PMs, please. No, I don't have any characters that can PL you and don't have any extra plat, etc. If you do decide to jump in the pool, be aware that the RP'ers are all gone and the current population rivals a WoW PvP server for immaturity and amazingly low IQs. EDIT: Hahaha, holy shit, but some level 50 Troll just keeled over and died because he fucked up a spellcrafting task in Jordheim next to me. At least DAoC does have a few fun tidbits to make your day. Last edited by Grumpy Old Fart; 07-26-2009 at 09:35 AM.. |

| REDLIN3D | Ah well it appears this "merge" of all the servers into one server is going to happen july/august. They just released this "/freexfer" technology on pendragon so I assume it won't be long until the whole 3k population (theres 3k on atm according to camelotherald) will be on one server.. free xfer, all characters (even more than 10) will be able to xfer, they havent said about houses yet, guilds will collapse etc.. but this will allow more guild emblems etc since its a new server so all the old guilds wont have taken the good emblems.. also said this one server will allow better maintenance and updates etc Mythic Entertainment | Camelot Herald - Community News for Dark Age of Camelot! The "/freexfer" command, which allows you to transfer your character to servers enabled to receive transfers - The guild transfer commands, "/gc packhouse" and "/gc transfer", which will allow a guild leader to pack a house for transferring it to a new server, and to pack a guild for transfer with the player to the new server. |

+1 Internets | Memories... I was much more fond of the stealth groups/Wars. I enjoyed going out with 14-20 sized stealth groups picking off players not paying attention near thier keeps/bridges. Of course after a while, the zerg would come by our location and attempt to get us. DAoC is the only game where PvP and a water based atmosphere had a purpose. Clashing up with other large stealth groups was $$. Keep/tower taking was a blast as a stealth group. 8 mans would swing by to see what was going on, only to have thier healers picked off before they could get back out of range of the area. Then they would come back thinking that there had been just 4-5 of us .We would also take down the weaker keeps and towers way in the back while the Zerg would work on the main areas. We completely through off thier defensive strategies as they tried to figure out which was truly the larger threat. I enjoyed it immensly. Oh, and housing was fun as well. Hello...Blizzard, Housing? |
