| change factions in WoW source: Faction-Change Service in the Works | General | WoW Blue Tracker | World of Raids We wanted to give everyone a very early heads-up that, in response to player requests, we’re developing a new service for World of Warcraft that will allow players to change their faction from Alliance to Horde or Horde to Alliance. There’s still much work to do and many details to iron out, but the basic idea is that players will be able to use the service to transform an existing character into a roughly equivalent character of the opposing faction on the same realm. Players who ended up creating and leveling up characters on the opposite factions from their friends have been asking for this type of functionality for some time, and we’re pleased to be getting closer to being able to deliver it. As with all of the features and services we offer, we intend to incorporate the faction-change service in a way that won’t disrupt the gameplay experience on the realms, and there will be some rules involved with when and how the service can be used. The number of variables involved increases the complexity of implementing this service, but we plan to take the time needed to ensure that it lives up to expectations before officially rolling it out. We’ll go into much more detail on all of this here at World of Warcraft Community Site as development progresses. In the meantime, we wanted to let you know that because this type of functionality requires extensive internal testing well in advance of release, you may be seeing bits and pieces of the service in the test builds we use for the public test realms moving forward. |

| LOL, I know huh? I mean who comes to a video game site that caters to WoW, then posts MAJOR WoW news in the MMO forum base? Honestly, who does that? Take your "I've only been here since Aug of '08 and still think replying with IBTR makes me uber and edgy" attitude and shove it up your ass, sideways.

Welcome to 3 days ago and 3 other threads regarding the OP and the topic. PS- You fail at insulting Mr. "Tattooed and Pierced Wow Playing Windows Admin with little patience for those that try to act tough on a fucking video game forum." Holy fucking pot meet kettle, hahahahahahhaa.

| I don't really follow the WoW threads closely, so this thread was helpful to me. I was thinking of coming back anyway, but this puts it over the edge. My Gnome with a Mohawk is about to become an undead with a mohawk. Wonder how it will handle mounts and faction.

| The Q-A they posted makes it clear that they want to preserve as much of the "core identity" of the character as possible, which means: 1) you will have as many pets and mounts as you had before the transfer (the pets stay the same, the mounts will translate whevener racially different) 2) you will have your factions translate: neutrals will remain at their levels, aligned faction will translate (your Alliance Expedition 13450/21000 will become Warsong Offensive 13450/21000; your Stormpike Guard exalted will become Frostwolf Clan exalted). No one knows how they'll handle racial factions. 3) you will keep most of your achievements. Some faction-specialised achievements may or may not translate (I mean, the "Spring Fling" is trivial, but differs between both factions. Do you get the horde version when moving over? What if it's only partially done?) 4) you will probably get access to all the faction-specific questing, from level 1 onward. I don't think they're going to map every alliance quest to a matching horde quest, and mark them done on your horde toon when the alliance character had done it (and yes, you will lose that Loremaster achievement. Probably). Their intent is really to let people switch over. Not to provide a fast reroll which is 80, uludar-geared, but who discovers every single spot on the map since he's lost all track of his past. |

+6 Internets | Given they seem to equate some races with each other. Remember the faction quests in AV? I imagine the racial mounts/factions will transfer along those lines. Which might be interesting for what race you become on switching... |

But obviously things break that. Dranaei Shaman. Night Elf Druid. Dranaei Warrior. Dwarf Paladin. Human Paladin. And so on. So will they follow that where possible and have specific breaks, or let you just go to character select as horde and as long as you pick the same class, have at it. Obviously the latter selection would be 'better' but it is blizzard.
