No, I don't see any reason they can't at all, and I've got a feeling we're going to start hearing things* within the next 6 - 12 months.

*Hopefully those 'things' being that it's a next gen sci-fi MMO in a new IP based around world pvp and intergalactic zone control

Yeah, I agree with Glaive. You'd think they'd probably give the next expansion title a more epic name or phrase rather than just a word. I'm really excited about the new MMO because it has the potential to easily blow WoW out of the water in terms of gameplay since it'll be Blizzard's second take in the genre.

Yeah with as far forward as WoW took the genre, I'm really excited to see what they can do on their second round if they apply everything they learned in WoW and implement from the start all the things they've wanted to do with WoW but couldn't due to constraints.

I know ill probably catch flack for this but...

Any new MMO that comes from blizzard will be a reworked WoW. They will change the graphic, names, classes and spells might become proficiencys. It follow pretty much the same rules and gameplay designs as Wow. Sure it might be in the space, future or post cataclysm but it will be similar in lots of ways.

Why?

First, because Wow has been successful, they will be afraid to try anything that might not be able to get similar numbers to Wow or it will be seen as a failure.

Second, they will save a shitload of time and money on development if they can reuse a lot of the code from wow.

I hope Im wrong.

How can you say it will be a dud, when you'll get (not one, but two) furry races in it?!

You're not just wrong, you're stupid. I'm not even going to touch that because it's not worth the effort rebutting such an absurd statement.

Gonna have to go with a WoW expansion.

A Cataclysmic event in the old world would give them a chance to update the engine or make any other number of changes to the game that they want.

Looking at the expansion map, I see they still have at least two more expansions mapped before the planned end the game.

Of course there is the more intriguing idea that they are actually going to end the game world ahead of schedule in order to clear the way for their new MMO. I think that would be an awesome idea, but probably way too risky in terms of being a business model. Still, you could see some sort of transition taking place. It's not like they don't have more money than god to throw at the problem.

O really? So they will change to 3 or 4 factions, add pay as you go content, add some first person, go to a system like in china where you only play for time played, voice overs, do away with all treadmill reputation etc, go with a skill system instead of leveling, allow players to design new content and have it put in game after approval, allow you to have cross faction chat, encounters will be all reworked and nothing like the ones in wow, the AI will be so drastically better it will feel like your playing against a PC boss rather than NPC and new content will be released faster than you can beat it!

The core will be the same, they game will be made just like Wow so you need to spend massive amounts of time to max rep and get the best items so you keep paying and paying. If you think they will reinvent the MMO your dreaming. They have been refining their system ever since they released Wow to maximize paid subscriptions.

So basically you're saying it'll be exactly the same, only completely different?

Per an interview, Runemasters were almost the hero class for WOTLK, but they decided to go with DK. That means a pretty strong chance we could see them as the next one.

Sounds like our chances are good then, I think the time is ripe for a healer/melee hybrid DK is the obvious choice for WoTLK given the thematic links, but now that's out of the way we can get our runemaster.

Healer/Melee Hybrid, using a energy based combo system would be great.

Can you link the interview? Would be an interesting read.

The only issue I can see is that they'd have to work in a bunch of new animations for hand to hand combat, since runemasters are monk style martial arts fighters, but I can't imagine that's too hard.

eh, when they really introduce 2 new races in expansion#4 they hopefully have a way in it to level from 1-20 in their respective new starter zones and then allow a huuge leap forward to level70/80 or whatever for those who already got a lvl90/100 character or so
