I still don't understand why there are factions anymore anyway. Alliance and Horde have been teamed up for quite a while now anyways...

Nah it will be 10 with no AA or something new but as meaningless as achievements and all previous content rendered obsolete.

Its worked for them this far why stop now? Seriously they could lose half their subscriber base and still be what? Like 6 million people or something? Pretty sure they will maintain the status quo

It is kind of terrifying when you think that WoW could release a shitstorm patch and begin to hemmorage 200,000 subscibers per month and it would still be years before they would run out of customers. Or that they could lose 80% of their subsciber base overnight and still be able to make a huge profit and be the biggest North American MMO.

people always throw around the 11-12m sub number and its not accurate. It breaks down as follows:

~2-3m NA subs
~2-3m European subs
~5-6m Chinese subs (every "character" is a subscription in China, there is no monthly sub fee but per-hour fees)
rest scattered through Russia, Taiwan, etc

Its still an absolutely massive number, but the Chinese sub fees are miniscule in $$ amounts since its a join venture with The9 (or another company now?), fees are lower, and this is the highest growth market (well duh, 100-300m potential customers!).

In terms of highest revenue customers its really in the 5-6m range from US/Europe. Still massive and orders of magnitude higher than pretty much every other MMO.

This. If you exclude emo-Wrynn (worst.king.ever.), all the other major characters don't give a fuck anymore, hell, Jaina and Thrall probably fuck 3 times per week when we all go to sleep.

Watch the original opening cinematic to WoW. An MMO about Horde vs Alliance in PvP and PvE was what I thought was coming down the pipe. They just needed more time to flush out the Ranking system and we could totally 'war' against each other all day. Of course that plan was dead long, long ago. We fight in arenas. We double team everything from Hogger to Arthas. Everytime a blue 'war' emphisised World of WARCarft, I wanted it to be true. The 'war' has been dead for a long time.

Unless you count who owns the most flags. Flags are like the newest and greatest resource for some reason. If we didn't head into a BG and try to steal flags, who knows wtf would happen to the Alliance capitals.

I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, but realistically what do you want them to do? It's hard to emphasize the "war" between the factions (keep in mind we aren't technically at war right now AFAIK) in PVE without just turning the game into nothing but PVP, which most of the subscribers don't want.
