true ballers had 0 in sense heading, but kept a rusty short sword in one of their bags.

That's fine and dandy, but in the case of Lifetap his concern was the damage it does to you, not the mana cost. Though frankly, using R1 to take negligible damage and still getting the Lifetap buff out of it is lame.

Smart people rebound Sense Heading to Left or Right, and then forgot about it for a few days and BAM! magically maxed skill.

Wasn't the compass dependent on your sense heading skill? I was under the impression that it would be totally wrong if your skill sucked. I only played one character and my sense heading wax maxed, but I imagined it spinning around randomly for low level characters.

It'd be a visual representation of sony's hate for people. Then again, maps were already part of the UI at that point.

no idea, I remember creating a new char and having 200 sense heading skill given free. Not sure what point that was, luclin or pop maybe? But I never remember maps being in game, that sure woulda been helpful but it did keep atlas maps getting constant hits

Compass was dependant on skill.

And yes, if you didn't bind it to left/right you were a noob =p

Originally the compass was bound to skill (it's swing wildly if it was low), but tehy eventually had everyone start out with the skill maxed. Mine was bound to 2 and is still my most pressed button.

As for the ranking change, as an EQ bard I approve of these changes.
