How to fix Spell Plate (ripped shamelessly from Warhammer):

Paladin's now use the resource "Light's Essence." This regenerates at a rate of 1/second, naturally. Some talents may boost it, to say, 3/sec naturally. A few librams/off-hands also add straight +LE regen.

Some attacks build up LE, some attacks require LE to use. Spells get stronger the more LE you have, and some Holy talents significantly up the amount of LE you can store. Offensive attacks still follow the same rules as all other STR plate.

You don't win because Zehn's been suggesting that mana be ripped out of the game for ages and he's been right.

Even with their proposed 4.0 changes the mana classes are still fucked by having to collect an extra stat just to regenerate their special ability pool. This is still bad design.

I should just make myself a new signature. Zehn's 10 commandments of MMO's.

1 - Mana is terrible, use energy with a secondary amplify system (combo points, rage, whatever).
2 - Random loot is terrible, let us pick our loot.
3 - Alts with benefits is peachy keen, make alts not a pain in the ass.
4 - Limit healing, increase the power of preventative medicine!

I think that about sums it up. There's a rumored 11th commandment about the experience point system is terrible and how they need to make the game more goal orientated then just grinding out boars all day with quests and adventures rewarding you with skills and new abilities and that each mob can have it's own experience table similar to that one mana game where the more you killed a creature type the better you got against that particular creature type but it had no real impact on the rest of your game.

However in the year of our Lord Zehn Christ 28AC there was a meeting of church officials and they agreed that tl;dr.

No, Warhammer was bad and Warrior Priests were inherently unbalancable.

For what it's worth a friend of mine working for Blizzard has indicated the hard modes are a bit easier than the hardest Ulduar hard modes. He wouldn't go into much detail, so it may be that the first one's are clearly easier and it ramps up in difficulty, or something.

Now obviously working for Blizzard doesn't mean shit because half the time they don't know whats going on with their own encounters (see: Ignis). If this is their intent, however, we'll probably see any particularly difficult encounter nerfed down so that they're free epics for all.

I'm trying to think back to a worse content patch than this, but I'm struggling to come up with one.

DAoC did 1-6 and 8, and look how that turned out. (Ok, they still used "mana," but it was basically energy given how fast you expended it/recharged it in the endgame) 8 pretty much destroyed DAoC as it required everyone to buy two accounts and level a buff bot to not be fodder.

I'm with you, but I wouldn't put it past some guilds to do exactly that. Reminds me of TBC when someone (Nihilum?) parked 25 warlock alts outside TK to soulstone the raid.

You need to keep in mind that Mythic also fixed the problem in DAoC. The solution is really easy. Just make it so buffs fade if you get too far away from the buffer. That way you don't get buff bots sitting in town while the person being buffed is 20 miles away being a wrecking ball. The only reason it caused a problem in DAoC is because it was a pvp game and buff bots could hide untouchable in a keep while the player walked around hulk smashing anything that moved.

A simple way to do it is just make all buffs function like paladin auras in WoW. Stay within 50ft of the player and you get whatever it is they offer. Go off on your own and you are shit out of luck. It would let raiders not worry about refreshing and reagents. Also helps in pvp because getting buff refreshes in battle grounds is like pulling teeth. Run a aura system and you get boosted by default. Win/win.

I would prefer an AA like system of EQ mixed with flask like system of wow. Buffs that last through death for large amounts of time with the ability through alternate advancement to increase the duration. 7 hour buffs persistent through death would kick ass.

Buff bots already exist in wow. How many paladins sat outside the raid to be buff bitch. Reagents need to go either way.

Uh, mana regen in DAoC wasn't that fast, unless you were humping a font of power, and those didn't exist until ToA. Remember that DAoC had power AND endurance, like AoC.
