Good games and popular games are usually two different things. The last years have proven time and time again that unchallenging constantly rewarding gameplay is what the masses buy. But they are far from being the best games.

Great game is relative. WoW is a great game for a lot of people. And there is also a large portion of people who play it because it's almost the only real choice out there for MMO's. But to claim that WoW is a 'bad game,' when it's been wildly successful, basically caused the MMO genre to explode in popularity and raised the bar for quality and playability so high that EQ can't even touch it while standing on tiptoes, is ridiculous.

Same principle. Someone else does the work, you pay them for it.

All around, WoW probably is the best game right now. There are other games that easily trump WoW in some aspects (POTBS Port battle is better than any battleground WoW ever has offered) but the rest of the game around these features usually sucks really hard.

Sadly yeah, that's more or less the case. Every other game has either completely flopped or has deep seated design flaws that ruin it's enjoyability. WoW certainly isn't my ideal MMO, but it seems to be the only damn one out there that's more or less playable. Just the fact that it's so popular is a big draw on it's own. WoW isn't just a game, it's a phenomenon, and as much as the community as a whole sucks ass, it's hard to avoid wanting to play when you constantly hear so much about it and all your friends are playing.

Fact is you can level as a healing spec in bgs, not so much in the quest grind. And thats why people are reluctant to level up, the quest grind. Need to level up through battlegrounds and pvp. Maybe give everyone dual spec, fuck it. Here's the risk: PEOPLE AFKING TO LEVEL IN BGS. Makes the whole thing worse. You need a vote to kick or something... but then poor new guy leveling up is outcast and gtfo'd. Or we need a healer, kick this dps... etc etc. You may also say to yourself, well then no one will do the quests anymore! Blizzard's marvelous engine! Not true, many people hate and avoid pve. I have several paladins and others in my guild who ONLY PVE. Then you say to yourself, hey its gonna be a zerg of retadins and dks right? Well.... there remains ONE TRUE ANSWER. Make a test realm where all this is possible. Farm the balls out of some data and sniff out 'sploits in the system. Meanwhile, look for alternatives to add pvp to the WORLD OUT THERE. Hell, use all that awesome phasing technology to "instance out" pvpers and nonpvpers or make it a toggle while in the city. "I wish to battle the alliance" flagged for 2 hours. Make raids on city leaders a real deal. Ulduar is great and all, I'm really enjoying watching the scrubs struggle and the different raid comps and strats we're sharing cross guild. I'm enjoying trading crafts and charging runed orbs for them if we cant make a crafting agreement. What I'm not enjoying is. THE. SAME. OLD. SHIT. I'm not saying add some insane zone control warhammer/shit that players will exploit and cause unending developer hell. I'm just saying some old world pvp zone objectives for tokens for armor per level range. When I played WC3 the game wasn't all about farming creeps, I picked WoW up hoping for some sick battle (what did I know) and I can create that when I want to. I can start that when I want to but its getting stale. Spin us some lore, I remember in the WC2 manual a picture of an orc holding a severed human head. What happened!? Do they in fact realize if they bought up the piddly price (to them) the marketing ad on MMO-Champion and WoWhead.com "COME EXPERIENCE THE REVITALIZED WAR BETWEEN HORDE AND ALLIANCE PATCH 3.x.x". That shit would turn some heads. Whatta you think? (besides TLDR)

+17 Internets | You should absolutely be able to level up through BGs. That was one of things that Warhammer got right. Money and XP for BGs, and a set of cheap gear with a PVP rank requirement every 10 levels or so would be ideal. Leveling would actually be fun again. WoW already has 80 levels of Kill/Collect quests for those who don't like PVP. |

Every time I pick up EQ again and start a new char I'm amazed at how much more fun I find plain old grind leveling than doing the quest treadmill. I know a lot of people love the quest treadmill and think it adds something to the game, but to me it just adds a lot of tedium to leveling. In EQ its actually fun to me to just find the best exp spots and kill shit.
