Yeah, PlayOnline blows. Hopefully they do away with it and work out some deal with Sony where people can just use their PSN accounts. Seems like it'd be possible, and then for the PC users Sony would be getting free advertisement on PS3s and games for those that didn't previously have an account with them.

Not if developers continue to push out shitty unpolished games like Conan or Warhammer, both of which were expected to get above the 1 million line. True, there won't ever be a game to beat WoW, well maybe WoW2, but I doubt they'll ever make that, maybe in 20 years after WoW1 has died down finally and the unnamed mmog they have has run it's course too I still expect one game to come along and take a decent chunk of their playerbase.

While I do agree that the playerbase will spread out eventually too, maybe bioware's star wars will start that, I still find it hard to believe that will happen anytime in the near future and maybe only when the next Blizzard mmog comes out. Soe's games will always be shit, doubt star trek will hit as hard, or any of the comic ones, stargate is dead, not expecting much out of the w40k one in the works. We still have games coming out and only managing to get 250-500k subs, while good numbers for any game really, still barely a dent to WoW.

Or you know, maybe Squeenix is smart enough to learn from past mistakes and make the transition to PC much less awkward, while improving on gameplay elements.
Maybe every other developer would be smart enough to learn from the mistakes from other developers too in the last ten years of mmog's. But everyone repeats the same stupid mistakes. So in regards to Squeenix learning from their own mistakes with the first final fantasy game, I'll believe it when I see it.

Blizzard is already in development of WoW2, no doubt. We just won't see it on store shelves for 5+ years.

You're one lazy mofo if you couldn't use the gamepad over keyboard/mouse. The one and only MMO where I could play laid back on the couch....good times.

At least Playonline will have an excuse to exist now after 7 years.

I've already seen it. Squeenix has spent a couple expansions and quite a few patches fixing mistakes in FFXI.

Im positive that the battle on the boat, during the storm, in the trailer is an in game cinematic. The character textures arent as glorious in that scene as the rest of the trailer -- the exact same thing goes for the environment textures. The mast of the ship also looks poorly rendered in terms of regular CG animation -- therefore the conclusion is that it has to be in game. The graphics don't match up with that scene and the rest of the trailer.

Meh ignored this the first time, but ... wtf. You do realize WoW has 3 mentions in this thread, you and the other dipshit who mentioned we think it's a WoW killer. The 3rd was someone replying he wanted something between WoW and EQ.

PS. This is a WoW killer to make it official. Meh, but seriously... wanting to like a game and it being a WoW killer have nothing in common.

/end rant

Anyways can't wait for my next console MMO. May blow off Aion even though FFXIV probably won't make it in 2010.

I'm really hoping this is a WoW killer. Really Really fucking hoping it is a WoW killer. But it isn't. It won't even be close. It won't.

FFXI was great, but it was like a woman. If you weren't willing to endure its myriad faults you were generally doomed not to savor its many delicacies.

I have actual hope for a non Blizzard MMO worth playing again all of a sudden. Bioware doing KotOR online? Square following up FFXI? Storylines? Cutscenes? MULTICLASSING? Color me optimistic. One of them has to have some legs.

Wait... What?

Is this perhaps one of the first communications from some sort of warped reality that is seemingly inverted as compared to the one we all share?

Square-Enix is a piece of shit company that releases piece of shit games. Sure, they have had a few good games, but 90% of the titles they release are festering piles of shit, and FFXI is solidified in my mind as the worst major MMO of all time, behind EQ, WoW, EQ2, DAoC, SW:G, etc etc etc.

The company sucks, and they release shitty games.

Various news outlets are now reporting that it has been confirmed that the game will have a simultaneous worldwide release on launch. No Japanese headstart, which already makes this better than FFXI. No word on whether servers will be consolidated or not.
