All I know is if I can't jump I won't make it past level 5. Was the deal-breaker for me in FFxi. I could almost tolerate forced grouping, grinding and terrible class balance because it was Final Fantasy.

But a lack of jumping in an open world game? Fuck that.

Heh, it's true. I didn't ever play past the first free 30 days because I couldn't jump.

When are you guys going to learn the only WoW killer will be made by Blizzard.

This certainly won't come close if they make it more like the first one or EQ or even Lineage. I'm sure this will cater to the console crowd than the pc crowd too, like the first one with the craptastic controls and interface for the pc. Not to mention the stupid decision not to give North American it's own fresh servers at release. CG trailer didn't do much for me, want gameplay trailer before joining the hype.

I really expect this one to have a fairly heavy western influence. I'm thinking it'll be FFXI + WoW. Given how cool some of the missions and accompanying cinematic sequences were in XI, I think they'd be able to stand toe to toe with upcoming titles like SWTOR in the story department if they added voiceovers.

The UI will probably still blow, but who knows, maybe not.

I'm dying to hear more info on the lore. The trailer clearly shows a Galka and an Elvaan, so it has to be tied to FFXI somehow. I guess "Erzoa" could be part of Vana'diel, or another world in the same universe.

There'll never be a WoW-killer, but what WoW has done is increase the overall userbase of MMO games in general. WoW's millions of players are going to spill out across all sorts of new games over the next few years. Instead of having one giant mammoth that is the clear winner, we're going to have several very good MMOs that become very successful 1 million+ sub games.

Or you know, maybe Squeenix is smart enough to learn from past mistakes and make the transition to PC much less awkward, while improving on gameplay elements.

I kind of gave up on Final Fantasy games once they started getting into that artsy androgynous style. I'm sure the Japanese are into that, but I grew up on Bruce Willis and the Ghostbusters, my heroes have scars and talk shit. Its hard to get into an MMO of their style.

The only game that will kill WoW is another Blizzard game, unfortunately. Man I'd love to play something other than another fucking fantasy game and actually enjoy it. A good steampunk or cyberpunk game would be awesome.

Final Fantasy is one of the few franchises I believe that could rival WoW's sub numbers if they did the easy mode approach like Blizz did. If they do that they'll be the wow killer. Recently there have been steps in FF XI to make it easier and I'm sure they'll be going for the easy mode approach in XIV without a doubt.

I hope we'll all get to fly our own Airships in the game. That would be so money!

I hope playonline is used for this, it's easily the greatest account management system ever invented. So streamlined, so easy; absolutely brilliant.

Doesn't matter how the game is so long as they keep using that system, I can't fucking wait.



P.S. Fuck playonline. I think I still get E-mails from Square or whatever telling me they are going to send me to collections because I changed credit cards instead of trying out how to cancel my account and they've been charging me for a monthly fee ever since and are glad to allow me to start playing again once I pay my 4 years worth of subscription back to them...

Yeah I think I get about 4x the newsletter. And I remember having to rebuy the game because I canceled my playonline when I did my account, instead of just the account, so they deleted me.
