I hear the grind in FFXI has gotten a bit better, but that still remains another barrier to competing with WoW. Lets be honest for a second: People are going to play the game where it's easier to achieve the goals they want. WoW serves goals up on a silver platter, while in FFXI, i never felt like i was accomplishing all that much. Graphics are going to be interesting with FFXIV. I'd love to see some real in game footage rather than just the cutscenes. I'd also like a lot more information as to how they plan to lay out the game. Is it going to be a wide open world like much of FFXI is, or are we pushing another instance-fest? To be honest, i could go on and on, but in the end i say it's way too early to tell if FFXIV could even touch WoW. I look forward to reading more about it, though. I'll definitely be giving it a shot if it looks good and can overcome some of the pitfalls of the previous version. | |

+10 Internets | For everyone saying they want a PC release, FFXI played much better with a controller than it did with mouse and keyboard. The only way I could use it without a controller was by setting it to keyboard only and not using the mouse at all. I'm sure it will do just fine on the ps3 and depending on if it requires a subscription, I'm sure it will just hoping it wont, I'll be interested in playing it. |

+26 Internets | I just hope that they'll take their lessons from FFXI and apply them to XIV. I have heard that the Japanese players love the grind though, so who knows. I don't know if it was because we had jumped over from EQ into this, but most of the people I played with burned out around level 30 (with multiple jobs in the ~20 range), and 1 - 3 months of play. We might have already been burned out from EQ, I can't really remember. Loved the job system, art style, damage and xp chains. Mobs became repetitive though, and some of the essential farms were bullshit. |

My left nut is sitting here waiting to be given for a MMO world as pretty and stable as LoTR but fun and set in something like Toril of Forgotten Realms.

| How FFXI was launched in north America was a big part of the problem. With all the twinks running around i believe people got an early jaded perspective of the game. People became hyper-selective in groups (I felt this as a monk big time). The game was hard, which was great, forcing the use of consumables, skillchains, and also giving a sense of danger not found in most MMOs lately. The level break quest in the catacombs held me up for almost 2 weeks. Also the sub class system did not exactly allow for alternate subjobs, for example my monk pretty much only would work with warrior as sub. |
