| Play Sudoku if you want a game without jumping. The rest of us don't want to have to run around the perimeter of a two-foot high wall for twenty minutes when both efficiency and realism dictate we should just be able to jump over it. |

| Some of you are nuts. There is absolutely nothing about cross-culture servers that makes up for the terrible fucking ping you get going from the US to Japan. That's a deal breaker for me. Being forced to play on Blizzard's terrible east coast servers with my guild while being on the west coast is bad enough. Make them region free sure, but there needs to be servers based in the US. So that's a potential Strike 1 for the game. Strike 2 will be if there's no jumping to parrot everyone else - it's that important. Strike 3 will be if it has shitty ass Asian-mmo style grinding. No more, never again. WoW has casualized me to the point where I cannot put up with mindlessly killing mobs for as many hours as other games take. Also if it has boss fights that are as long as some of FFXI's? Hell no. I'm too old and cranky to put up with obnoxious MMO "features" and failings. |

| I, like many here, have extolled the virtues of Job Systems, so I will simply say the following: If Square makes sure all of the following are met: 1) US Servers. Lag alone dictates that US servers have to be mandatory. Allow NAers to play on Japanese servers if they like, but US ones are a requirement. 2) Allow solo play. Call me weaksauce if you like, but I am in my thirties now, and simply will not play a game that requires a two hour+ block, or four other people, to get anything done. Make it far less advantageous than grouping, but leave it a possibility. 3) Reasonable growth rate. I'd be perfectly fine if it took the same amount of time as WoW to get max level... when there are also X (probably a dozen plus) number of other Jobs I then can do as well. 4) Remove the jumping problem. I don't necessarily care if you can jump - FFXI had to be playable on a PS2 controller people, and losing one button just to be able to jump wasn't worth it. But if we can't jump, then make damn sure there is no reason we would have to jump: No fucking one foot tall rocks or hedges, or just make characters automatically scale anything that's "jump height". Do those four things and SE has the right to take a subscription fee from me for perpetuity. And yes, I fully expect the game will also release on 360, at or slightly after the first expansion. |

+25 Internets | FF MMO. It will not use PlayOnline. We all sigh, relieved.

+2 Internets | As others have said, the problem with FFXI was that, while it had great ideas, their implementation 99% of the time was terrible. Now, it looks FFXIV is a reimagining of FFXI. If Squaresoft can toss the bad ideas from FFXI and implement the good ones properly, while incorporating new ones from MMOs that came afterward then this will be the game that takes me away from WoW. So far it looks promising, of course, this game is being developed by one of the worst developers when it comes to actually listening to their playerbase, so we'll see how it turns out. It also doesn't help I have a soft spot for playing White Mage. By listening, I mean listening to the playerbase, especially their North American and European playerbase when it comes to problems with the game (hi2u2 Absolute Virtue and not getting fixed until the length of HNM fights made the newspapers). |
