As to the Champions etc didnt push the release schedules up, that's ridiculous. They are probably ripping off all the unique ChO costumes from beta (they're adding a ton in the next issue) and adding to them to CoX before it launches. CoX has the advantage there, any unique non-secret feature of any upcoming game they can just steal and put in theirs first so they can say, oh no we did that first. I still think people will end up playing the new games to try them out, this 3 way battle for hero niche dominance is likely going to look like the Battle of Hastings...so it will be fun to watch the carnage since I dont think the marketplace can support 3 hero games.

| Issue 15 Overview | City of Heroes Please correct your opening point. Issue 15 is not going rogue. Issue #15, "Anniversary", was announced on April 28th on City of Heroes' Fifth Anniversary date and is currently in development. The update will add Mission Architect features that didn't make the deadline for Issue #14, a new Task Force/Strike Force involving the Fifth Column (one of the early game enemy factions which had few appearances in the game until now), and costume creator sets, new faces, and the first free costume change emotes. Going rogue is an expansion. City of Heroes: Going Rogue was announced on May 11, 2009. Labeled as an expansion, the game centers around the alternate reality of Praetoria and features a new alignment system allowing player characters to shift allegiances between Heroes and Villains, giving characters access to both the Paragon City of CoH and the Rogue Isles of CoV. Paragon Studios describes this as "[exploring] the shades of gray that lie between Heroes and Villains". |

+1 Internets | I think its excellent. Cryptic had fairly much run CoH into the ground and weren't terribly committed to it. Now you have a larger team (they hired quite a few developers) who are focused on trying to make the game better. I like the fundamental gameplay of CoH but it needs a lot of freshening up and more content, especially high level stuff (though collecting an optimal IO set is fairly intensive). I think I would have preferred they announced CoH version 2.0 but building on their existing foundation is a valid strategy. Marvel I think is off until 2011 to tie in with other movies? The challenge for them will be DCUO (not too concerned about Champions). |

+23 Internets | 5th column was actually written out of the game for a while because of germany, i believe (they were something like hitler's occult division of the nazis.) an actual coh player can probably elaborate.

Officially, Statesman, Positron, etc. said that they always intended to get rid of the 5th Column by having the Council usurp it. It was supposedly part of the story. This happened to coincide with the game's release in Germany where, from what I gathered, Nazi insignia is not allowed. Obviously the players put two and two together. There was lots of debate back and forth as to the real reason for the vanishing of the 5th Column, but I'm not sure if Cryptic ever owned up to it. There were some telling signs though, for example not only was the 5th Column removed as a villain group, but any and all references to the group in in-game historical stories and plaques were changed to say the Council. Anyone I'm glad the 5th Column is back. The Council was gay. | |

+31 Internets | Playing the CoV side of it now, it's a blast with a small group of friends... makes me want Champions/DC to come out sooner. This fits the "WoW is boring, let's playing something else for a while..." timeframe. Now if only the comic genre could get a little better... |

| We bawlin boi! | Yea it's a lot of fun with the new AE missions, can still PL like crazy if you have the right groups as well. I'm in the mode of leveling up alts with my 50s now since I have my old 2nd account back. Looking forward to bringing my second fire/kin to 50 (45 now) so I can make him go rogue and use him to PL my villains when the xpac comes out.

+1 Internets | There's a lot to like about CoH. I still find the graphics crisp and clean with some great power effects. The costume creator is still amazing and the game mechanics are actually damn fun with a group. Even the approach of tied door missions to tell a story and enhancements as an upgrade path are novel. Quite fun as a log in, do a mission or two, log out game. The game is stale though and the population fairly low, and the original developers (cryptic?) have to take a lot of responsibility for letting it stagnate. I can't help think it's going to take a new release (CoH2) to renew the game but wonder if they have the funds for that. Last edited by Shinrai; 05-25-2009 at 07:22 PM.. |
