its a cool pet but fuck me if our society hasn't gone overboard with the commercialization of every goddamn thing. yeah yeah its a business, but this stuff creeps up one baby step at a time, and before you know it you'll be paying fees to enter an exclusive raid dungeon.

I HAS SPOKEN!

Honestly it's no different then EQ. The only difference is you grew up and forgot that's what half your guild sounded like on Roger-Wilco.

Since when did using voice chat become commonplace in Everquest? I quit in late 2002 and was in arguably one of the top 5 raiding guilds game-wide and we never used it once. If I had heard what some of the people in my guild sounded like, my fantasy world would have been ruined.

Anyways, voice chat isn't really necessary. It helps a bit, but I play games to immerse myself in another world, and that's kind of hard when I'm hearing actual random people whine, moan and take a game so serious that they get all bent out of shape over (WoW comes to mind..). I can get enough of that at a job. The emphasis on voice chat in games nowadays really irks me...I disable it if possible or I simply don't play the game. Anonymous internet douchebaggery is at an all time high these days.

The pace of the game was such that you could type out instructions and not automatically cause a wipe.

Now, if you stopped moving long enough to yell at some dipshit to get out of the fire, you've died and/or wiped the raid yourself.

Having to type things out was a nice filter for a lot of the useless crap that infests voice chat. Most of it wasn't worth typing, and so you didn't.

But alas, those days are gone. So now we get to hear helicopter guy who has the fan blowing on his mike, chick with 4 kids screaming in the background, southern hick who's accent is so thick that his talking causes situations to break just from everyone else laughing at him, and all the other vent shit that goes on Even in your guild among your "friends".

edit: now with 80% less shits!

I had a lot of fun at Blizzcon last year. (Lotta stinky people though) I lucked out and was able to actually get my tickets through their web page by some miracle. The price of ticket was well worth it for me to attend the various panels and the opening and closing ceremonies. They could have kept all the long lines though. People were waiting in line for 8 hours to get to the Blizzard store to buy pewter mugs...

If you do go this year know where the line starts on the first day! I thought I was in line to get into the center and then I realized that it completely wrapped around the building then it snaked through a huge parking lot...

Wow.

Thank you for putting my exact thoughts on vent in WoW into text.

And thank you Everquest for teaching me how to play an MMO and type to communicate at the same time. In fact, I thank EQ entirely for my speed at typing.

I hate vent in WoW, left a guild because so many redneck voices and ideology being spewed unnecessarily.

I would argue they would make more money at $5 a pop then this.

If I wait in line 8 hours to get a fucking mug it better be magical, and always be full of good beer. If I set it down, it just fills up again.

I don't think they're selling women with those mugs.

$40 for an in-game pet is pretty goddamn retarded.

I would buy one for $5, though.

I didn't! I learned to type really fast...although while pulling it was kinda hard. That's why the group usually didn't get a warning until I dumped it on the cleric's heads.
