+38 Internets | Really is amazing how you get such fond memories from such a bad game. I remeber how much fun I had being a scout hunting down theives in Khar Tset. Steal my guilds money will you? Fucking tracking your ass down. |

| Registered User | To this day, some of the most memorable and fun moments I've had in MMO gaming has been from Shadowbane; however, there's two important things to point out. 1) Most of the people who have fond memories usually were skilled or were in guilds that dominated their servers or had strong presence. It wasn't as fun for the others in many circumstances... 2) It's hard to sustain a MMO where the model allows guilds to control the entire world and literally delete the hundreds of man hours of resources opposing guilds used to build their cities. To this day I am not sure how Eve sustains itself and how a guild/corp hasn't forced many many others to quit yet.

Sad kinda to see SB finally close up shop, amazed it lasted as long as it did tho, that was like a 2003 game so not a horrible life time for an mmo. | |

+9 Internets | I'm pretty sure it's been free-to-play for the past couple years. I vaguely remember trying to get back into it a year or so ago and just downloading and playing. |

+49 Internets | Ya, it was free to play for the past year or two. When SB starts (bugs aside) it was a pretty solid game. The political aspect was interesting, but the death of the game beyond bug/balance issues was the fact that, as stated before, one guild could easily dominate the server and destroy hundreds of manhours of work. Once a city/guild was crushed, usually the players quit. I remember the Death Server population crashed HARD when the balance of power on the server began to crumble and the major guild cities began to be destroyed.

| I loved Shadowbane. I won't miss it as the cons outweighed the pros by a significant margin, but it had some qualities at its core that I was enthusiastic about. I was a Confessor when PD3 was overpowered. Then those bastards nerfed us and left our relatively superior brethren, the elven priest channelers, alone for a long time. If only they'd made the lifetap take less cycles we would have remained effective support. Instead, once I came under atk all I could do was lifetap+heal and maintain an instant siphon dot on my attacker. I usually still died to stun/power block.Their buffs and nerfs were just silly. I knew I'd never come back when the deflar reigned supreme for such a long time. Last edited by Agraza; 04-18-2009 at 09:19 AM.. |
