Sounds like a pretty big range between 1500-3k, Lets hope it only takes the the least of the two heh.

I do like the idea of DEing everything i make, Im going to be dropping mining afterwards to pick up enchanting as well.

I appreciate the info guys, Thanks

Still it only took me ~2.5k to level it up. Once you hit 300 you're golden. Buy a bunch of fel iron ore and adamantite ore and prospect it and then it gets even easier at 350 when you can use plentiful WotLK gems.
When you hit this point just bite the bullet and prospect Thorium. It generally converts into a very very healthy amount of the right gems. Of course that is dependent on your economy. On my server it was cheaper to pay 40g for a stakc of thorium than it was to buy gems for 10-15g each.

Cost me 2.6 k to do it on my paladin with atleat 2K of it coming from 80 - 220. The first 80 was easy since with cheap rough and course stone from the AH. 220+ was thorium settings and on so not to expensive.

IMO if you have a mining alt maxed you could probably save 2K by running around thousand needles or badlands for 4 or 5 hours mining.

Wow my bad. When I quoted 2000 to level up JC that was including the returns from DE'ing all the jewelry. Straight up costs were somewhere between 2500-3000, granted I was impatient and bought whatever I could find for mats on the AH even if they were for some of the less efficient leveling recipes.

If you have access to a maxed enchanter I would say definitely level the JC. The two together are probably the best money machine in this game. Since WotLK hit I've probably generated ~30K gold through those two professions combined. Profits have dropped but its still a very steady income that covers full-time raiding on two characters without doing dailies, or grinding ever

My Paladin is engineering/mining atm, Im just going to drop Engineering and get JCing, i'll be keeping mining for awhile until i get JCing up there. Then ill drop it for enchanting.

So pricey

Cost me about 3.5k on Stormrage. But, I went directly off the AH and did it in the span of about 4 hours. Gave most of the shit I made to a guild member who was leveling Enchanting.

while technically this is true, the amount of thorium + thorium-based gems you need would have you mining until expansion 3.

i did mining/jc on my warlock and ended up spending about 2k on shit because i was impatient. as stated i DE'd most of it and came up around 1k or so spent.

Just remember that it takes 5 ore/prospect, so it will take a LOT of ore to get the gems you need. Also, Blacksmithing/JCing is an excellent combination.

After years of being an engineer, my man dropped it and mining and levelled up both blacksmithing and jewelcrafting. He did BS first and JC and spent a couple thousand gold for both. I'm an enchanter/tailor so it works out beautifully as I just DE'd all his grinding work. Now we are levelling harvesting characters with RAF.

However now I just know Blizzard is going to make engineering the de facto standard for tanks in a future patch.

This.

Sure you need to mine a shitload of thorium. But between spending a day or two farming, or spending 100g PER diamond or huge emerald when you need like 20 of each...I'll take farming.

Obviously if you can afford to just buy everything off the AH that's the easiest way. Just keep in mind it really doesn't take long to farm it all yourself. Especially since they upped the amount of thorium you get from rich nodes, and the fact that you can farm from either Dire Maul or ZG without any competition, run out, reset the instance, and repeat.

This is true, I don't mind thorium.. its the one mineral i actually dont find a burden mining the most because i have a good route in EPL.

The developers believe hunter dps is too low, so today we are implementing a change to ranged weapon damage to improve dps across the board.

Bows, crossbows and guns of item level 226 or higher (which means weapons from Kel'Thuzad, Ulduar and the Furious Gladiator pieces) will do around 30 more dps. This should translate to a hunter damage increase of a few percent.

We don't think this will be quite sufficient in boosting hunter dps to where we think it needs to be and we have another buff that we plan to get in sometime over the next couple of weeks. We'll announce that change when it gets closer. (We have some plans for other classes as well, but we ask that you please keep this thread on the topic of hunters and the ranged weapon changes.)

As hunters may recall, we had an ambitious plan to change the way ammo worked for 3.1 that ended up being overly ambitious, causing us to scale back. However as part of that change, we stopped itemizing bullets and arrows. Since hunters could not upgrade from the ammo available at the launch of Lich King, their damage had started and would continue to fall behind as other classes upgraded their gear. This change basically incorporates the ammo damage into the weapons -- as you get better ranged weapons, it's as if you got better ammo to go along with them. This is likely to be a design we continue for the next few tiers of content until we have the opportunity to overhaul ammo completely.
Anyone know if this went live today? Curse my extended maintenance server.

The hardmode Thorim x-bow went up to like 204DPS or something supposedly.

GG to their patch days. A few days ago their login server was fubared and no one could log in. Was in the middle of Ulduar when the game crashed for no reason. Tried to log back in and got stuck at connecting I think it was. Found out on the forums the only work around was to sign up for a battle.net account and log in that way. Now the battle.net is fucked and no way for me to log in.

Seriously youd think they would have this kind of shit fixxed after 4 and a half years at least.
