People didn't historically like PvP in EQ because it was the "Fuck Origin and fuck the dreadlords! Imma quittin!" game of choice for people who hated the roaming ganksquads in UO but liked the whole "I'm a mighty warrior/wizard/bard/etc and it's time to slay the dragon!" bit, therefore the EQ population was somewhat skewed.

Hell, some people (including Poppyhead McQuaid) thought nobody in their right mind really wanted pvp in their diku-derivatives except for a few crazies right up to the point where WoW pissed in their cornflakes.

(DAoC somehow got ignored, possibly because its subs were lower than EQ so therefore it didn't count. Or something).

Yes. The community is very tight-knit and everyone is friendly. Unfortunately the subscription page has been down for over a month now. You have to email SoE and do a bunch of BS to get a subscription, unless you do SoE all-access.

As a sidenote, mac subscription to eq is $12.99 instead of $15 and every new account can get a free 15 day trial. I used to make new accounts all the time and just play a char for the 15 days lol.

That's awesome. I wonder if I could get a pirated copy of OSX or a Mac emulator or something. The performance might be crap on an emulator but maybe not-- the computer I have now is about 10x more powerful than the one I used to run EQ on back in the day, so maybe it'll balance out.

I can't believe I never knew about this. I remember hearing about Al'Kabor, and I remember some announcement that "Support for Al'Kabor is ending" or something a long time ago, but I didn't know that that meant that it was frozen at POP.

And it still uses the old icons/UI and shit? Even if it's deserted, I'd resubscribe for a month just for that. I usually think of POP as the last "real" expansion anyway.

It's luclin spell gems/icons/ui. Otherwise everything else is oldschool. You forget how hard the game is until you log onto EQMac. It takes 3 hours to get level 4, no joke, just like the old days. It's fun for seeing the zones they revamped and the models they ruined, particularly orcs in crushbone and east/west commons/freeport and Ro/Oasis, etc.

Also, google hackintosh.

Seems weird they just abandoned it like that and never simply shut it down. That's a pretty cool little fluke though. I'm glad I'm not sick with the EQ nostalgia bug or I would probably be pricing macs right about now.

Actually it was pretty easy to active the eqmac subscription on my old eq account. I just downloaded the 2mb install, and before it started patching the station launcher it had a button I clicked to upgrade my account for eqmac. That was it.

Progression + pvp would get me in for a little while too. Yes, start it at kunark. I'd be primed towards a sullon zek + item loot ruleset, but thats just what I'm in the mood for now. Random rallos zek would probably take the cake.

When you say old UI do you mean the OLD one or with the option for the second "fullscreen" deal with a few transparent movable windows? I would think it should at least have that first upgrade option enabled. When did they put that in anyway? It was already there when I started playing, but I think it wasn't in the game from the very beginning.

do you realize how few lines of code a PvP flagging revamp would take? do you realize they can have blues and reds playing on the same server switching between flags?

SOE fucking fails again. No talent.

People want:

Revamped PvP flagging (so we can viably pvp on blue servers if we want to, thanks. Oh and go ahead and fix the fucking /guildwar command while you are at it you lazy sloths)
At least x3 to x4 exp rate (sorry bitches, MMOs are fast paced now. grindfest is over)
Resting regen rate x10 (yes, the golden age of grind has no appeal anymore. You have no fucking clue how essential this is to healthy retention)

Id settle for either drastic exp increases or drastic regen increases, If one of those doesn't happen, bank on this server crashing hard after 2 weeks.

When will SOE get the grindfest dick out of their mouth so people can enjoy their 10 year pride dinosaur? The losers on the boards (and the losers still playing EQ1 in its current state) really need to stop giving SOE this false sense of security. This server needs new direction. Its time for SOE to let their ego go, and admit that nobody cares about their slug-paced game anymore.

+regen and +xp. Let us know when it happens.

The transparent one was live before Kunark, or at the very latest, early Kunark.
