+1 Internets | INTERNAL MEMO: Sony Online Entertainment Stimulus Package '09 2nd Qtr Earnings Projection: How to make $20,000,000 in 3 months... 1. Pick one of the bullshit, no work required server types from your half assed poll. 2. Send a mass email to every past EQ/EQ2/VG/SWG subscribers, and make sure you spam the same address multiple times if the same email is tied to one or all those games. This kind of fuck-up lets people know that SOE, is still the same SOE you remember so fondly from your childhood. 3. Hire the WoW Chinese goober squad to spam EQ advertisements in Dalaran. 4. Offer $9.99 account upgrades to get current with all expansions. 5. Offer 3 month subscriptions for $29.99. 6. Give a free in-game birthday gift to the first character created on the new server: Rarely and randomly can contain Guises, Mana Stones, and Rubicite. DONE |

| I wonder what the chances are this server comes up on Monday. They are acting like this new server is a 10th anniversary thing and that happens to be on Monday. Then again, this is SOE we are talking about. So, the server will probably be up....June.

| Man, I'm telling you, pvp progression makes all kinds of sense. The reason that the pvp servers dwindled back in 2003-2005 has largely subsided--the shift from a pve-centric player demographic to a pvp-based one. If this server's purpose is to bring in new players, then why would you alienate PvPers? Sure, there are plenty (half?) of WoW PvE servers, but they're not PvE in the sense of EQ PvE servers. They have BG's. People are just used to being able to PvP now on a scale that they weren't back then. And if this server is also meant to rekindle old subs, I don't necessarily see making a combination of progression and pvp a bad thing. Those players who want to relive the old days will still be able to do so, just with an added dynamic element of pvp interactions. I'm biased though. As a player during the early Vallon Zek years, I have to say that was the most enjoyable experience of my gaming career. The community and overall game experience has not been matched in any MMO since...and I've played a lot of MMO's.

| I agree. I honestly think that a PvP progression server would have a higher retention of players than a regular progression server. Progression has been done, the novelty about how fast expansions can be beaten is gone. The old PvP servers were a lot of fun, but having it on a progression server would be insanely chaotic. Imo it would give a real challenge to the people who want to unlock each expansion asap, and would give the people who want the game to remain in the decadence of old school EQ a mechanism to make it so. Who needs timelocks when you have players dedicated to preventing others from beating dragons and farming keys? At the same time, it really would make unlocks an impressive achievement and would give a much larger feeling of accomplishment for actually unlocking an expansion. PvP would have more meaning on an EQ progression server than it ever had on any of the old school ones, and those were a ton of fun regardless of how meaningful the PvP was. |

+58 Internets | EQ's game and lack of balance does not work with PVP very well. The classes weren't balanced around a PVP game and on a new server I see a 90% caster/melee ratio with virtually none of some classes existing. Throw in the fact everyone can have a mercenary and it's a disaster. |

| Who cares, what PvP is balanced in any of these games? There's always going to be OP classes, doesn't mean it won't be fun. Progression, there shouldn't be any mercs so why bring them up? Really, they're not going to have mercs even on the regular prog server are they? That would be extremely lame. |

+58 Internets | The server does have to survive eventually, it will eventually get to SoD. Who cares? Have you ever been to the official forums of games? Balance is a serious bitchfest issue for PVE alone, throw in classes that are godlike to other classes in the early stages of the game thanks to spell revamps and a LOT of people will care. Just because you don't care or I don't care doesn't make it a non issue |

Seriously, a PVP progression server? If you played on Combine it wouldn't take a genius to realize what a fucking mess that would be.

And although I can't give definitive statistics, there is reasonably varied class representation on Zek today, and it was the same on Vallon Zek back in the day.

Care to elaborate? Part of the appeal of pvp servers is the fact that they are a "fucking mess" by the way. People like unpredictability and dynamic play, not auto-attacking AI for several hours every day.

| The PVP population of EQ is tiny because most people don't like EQ PVP. That's why. It would be financially stupid for them to make a new server that only catered to 10% (probably less) of their customers instead of the other 90%. |

+2 Internets | While I voted for the 51/50 option I would agree that you make a good point. Another progression server like Combine would probably bring them more players, on top of making normal servers 51/50 and possibly increasing (if only by a small amount) the amount of subs.
