I heard there have been decent UI improvments and some other stuff. If I didn't have to slog through so many levels (I lost my old account *sadness*) I would be even happier. Which is why I ussually plan on playing on Test. At least you can start at 25 and have double XP or whatever there. A 51/50 options would be even nicer.
What you and so many others repeatedly fail to understand is that you do not have to "slog through so many levels" anymore. You can be level 51 in a day, soloing and not twinked. The early leveling process is just so fast that you'll find you're not even getting any skills up to a decent level anyway. If that 51/50 character has no skills, no spells, and is bare ass naked, he's probably saving you a day or two at most, as your guy will be useless and your merc will do everything at first. Then, you'll still have to deal with the leveling process - there won't be people to group with at 51 any more than at level 2.

They've backpedaled repeatedly saying they want a very low maintenance server they can forget about. Do not expect a balanced start, do not expect free shit, do not expect server transfers, do not expect gm support, and do not expect a server community. If 51/50 comes out, I'd still recommend people returning to the game to pick a healthy normal server like druzzil and just go with that over a dead "twink" server.

The poll is done now, and the 51/50 option won by a long shot. So my question is: does anyone around here plan on starting up on the new server or is the general consensus to just leave EQ in the past? My first reaction was to not play at all if it wasn't a progression server, but having thought about it, this 51/50 idea could potentially be fun for a couple weeks. I don't think I would play long enough to catch up to where the regular servers are now, but grabbing a few server firsts in the first week might be fun.

As other people have said, 51/50 is about a week of casual play's time in modern EQ so whatever. Stupid ruleset to win.

I totally agree. It is obvious however that it is the option SoE wanted to win. The first sign was that they only allowed current subscribers, who are currently playing main characters on other servers, to vote in the poll. The second sign was all the posts made by Sklug about how it would make their life a lot easier if 51/50 won.

I wish progression would have won, but alas...

Eh, if there had been progression i'd have played, but I can grind a char to 51/50 with full defiant in < 3 hours. I've quit EQ for now, playing some EQ2 and having far more fun.

It's not even a week. You can literally hit 50/51 in about 10 hours playtime or less, total.

First potions are amazing, healing, haste, clarity, damage shields, etc. However they arn't in your face You do need to know how to get to PoK/Bazaar and find them. So lets pretend a brand new player would be clueless there and not get them.

Insert merc's. Even a clueless player, they tell you about it as you play, there are NPC's in all major starting cities that sell them to you, they are FREE until a reasonable level(20 or so?) and after that they are so cheap you barely even know you have one. AND THEY KICK ASS. Even at 61 with my warrior nearing max skills(1hs/doubleattack/dualwield/tripleattack/taunt/etc) I can't hold aggro off the merc. And my warrior has about 100aa(mostly defensive). I think I would need even more offensive aa and some hate procs to have a chance. And my weapons don't suck anymore. I have the level 65 defiant stuff, which is DAMN GOOD. A merc will get you to 50 so quick is really is a joke that the new server might have that ruleset. I still claim anyone who voted for that shit hasn't touched eq in years at this point.

Even the new aaxp curve is amazing! Zero xp potions or lesson(brand new account for the warrior) I can get about 15 in a 2-3 hour session PLing him with my 73nec/72clr + merc. Which means lower aaxp cause the higher level characters and 4 to a group!

If you want a serious raid environment, the 51/50 server will most likely never have it. Find out what servers have guilds doing the content you'd enjoy, spend a few hours (literally, just a few hours) getting to level 51 there, and save yourself a headache.

Seriously, don't ignore the numerous posters here talking about how easy it is - you can have your merc soloing to 51 while you work skills or cybor dudes and still do it in a few days very casually.

I played three accounts on Combine and was seriously considering firing up at least one (possibly all three) if it had been a progression server to play with a few friends who had expressed a nostalgic interest in doing so as well. Of 3-5 possible subs, SoE will manage 1... and he will be playing his old main rather than playing on the 50/51 server.

The EQMac thing is tempting (I'm primarily a Mac user), but I'd rather not reward SoE for failing to giving me what I wanted.

EQMac is proof that sometimes it's okay to get stuck in Time.

Consensus is as follows:

(1) If you want 'classic' feel play EQMac on Al'Kabor.

(2) If you want to play 'in the now' EQ play on a standard server (Druzzil seems popular but then so does FV and a couple of others - there is no consensus on which regular server to play as far as I've read - please feel free to flame me if there is an FoHguild forum standard EQ server).

(3) When it comes out pretend the 51/50 server doesn't exist and ignore the poor souls who roll new toons on it.

Have I missed anything?

Edit: tomo if you've got a mac join in. It's really fun - spent hours killing gnomes in sola yesterday. Or rather running around madly pulling gnomes for others to kill.

the only site still active that has guild progression info is Seeds of Destruction - Guild Progression List and most guilds on there are on the new content. I will keep searching though.

i wouldnt say im ignoring what peoples are saying about how fast it is to lvl cause i believe it. The issue is any good raiding guild i can find is lvl 85+ 1k aa + on a new server i thought it might be easier to get guild going again.

Those are probably the only guilds you will find on non-SoE sights, the heavy hitters and recruiters. But on the SoE EQ boards you will find guilds, in game there is a message board type thing where people can post, there is a looking for guild tool, and of course the ever so popular OOC chat.

Plus most mid-level guilds I talk to are desperate for good/active players since the game is stagnant. I found one and was completely honest with them. Said I was mostly back to check stuff out, no idea if I would stick around but I would love to join them for groups and some raids if they were ok with that. I also promised I wouldn't loot anything until I figured out if I was serious about raiding again or not. They were more than happy to bring me in. Of course my once pimp character was now a pansy compared to them, but it was fun still.

Wow. Massive fail. I cannot believe they are this dumb. Goodbye EQ, I actually re-subbed 2 accounts to play around with while the voting process is going on, cancelling those now.

Same. Had 2 subbed to wait it out for progression, canceling both now. This is such an epic fail on SOEs part I'm dumbfounded. And I still have a hard time believing those results are real. If current players are the ones voting, they are the ones who have first hand knowledge at how easy it is to level up and I don't see how they see any purpose in the new one. Wonder what RoI is going to do now
