They've backpedaled repeatedly saying they want a very low maintenance server they can forget about. Do not expect a balanced start, do not expect free shit, do not expect server transfers, do not expect gm support, and do not expect a server community. If 51/50 comes out, I'd still recommend people returning to the game to pick a healthy normal server like druzzil and just go with that over a dead "twink" server.

| The poll is done now, and the 51/50 option won by a long shot. So my question is: does anyone around here plan on starting up on the new server or is the general consensus to just leave EQ in the past? My first reaction was to not play at all if it wasn't a progression server, but having thought about it, this 51/50 idea could potentially be fun for a couple weeks. I don't think I would play long enough to catch up to where the regular servers are now, but grabbing a few server firsts in the first week might be fun. |

+9 Internets | It's not even a week. You can literally hit 50/51 in about 10 hours playtime or less, total. First potions are amazing, healing, haste, clarity, damage shields, etc. However they arn't in your face You do need to know how to get to PoK/Bazaar and find them. So lets pretend a brand new player would be clueless there and not get them.Insert merc's. Even a clueless player, they tell you about it as you play, there are NPC's in all major starting cities that sell them to you, they are FREE until a reasonable level(20 or so?) and after that they are so cheap you barely even know you have one. AND THEY KICK ASS. Even at 61 with my warrior nearing max skills(1hs/doubleattack/dualwield/tripleattack/taunt/etc) I can't hold aggro off the merc. And my warrior has about 100aa(mostly defensive). I think I would need even more offensive aa and some hate procs to have a chance. And my weapons don't suck anymore. I have the level 65 defiant stuff, which is DAMN GOOD. A merc will get you to 50 so quick is really is a joke that the new server might have that ruleset. I still claim anyone who voted for that shit hasn't touched eq in years at this point. Even the new aaxp curve is amazing! Zero xp potions or lesson(brand new account for the warrior) I can get about 15 in a 2-3 hour session PLing him with my 73nec/72clr + merc. Which means lower aaxp cause the higher level characters and 4 to a group! |

Seriously, don't ignore the numerous posters here talking about how easy it is - you can have your merc soloing to 51 while you work skills or cybor dudes and still do it in a few days very casually.

The EQMac thing is tempting (I'm primarily a Mac user), but I'd rather not reward SoE for failing to giving me what I wanted.

(1) If you want 'classic' feel play EQMac on Al'Kabor. (2) If you want to play 'in the now' EQ play on a standard server (Druzzil seems popular but then so does FV and a couple of others - there is no consensus on which regular server to play as far as I've read - please feel free to flame me if there is an FoHguild forum standard EQ server). (3) When it comes out pretend the 51/50 server doesn't exist and ignore the poor souls who roll new toons on it. Have I missed anything? Edit: tomo if you've got a mac join in. It's really fun - spent hours killing gnomes in sola yesterday. Or rather running around madly pulling gnomes for others to kill.

Plus most mid-level guilds I talk to are desperate for good/active players since the game is stagnant. I found one and was completely honest with them. Said I was mostly back to check stuff out, no idea if I would stick around but I would love to join them for groups and some raids if they were ok with that. I also promised I wouldn't loot anything until I figured out if I was serious about raiding again or not. They were more than happy to bring me in. Of course my once pimp character was now a pansy compared to them, but it was fun still.

+58 Internets | Same. Had 2 subbed to wait it out for progression, canceling both now. This is such an epic fail on SOEs part I'm dumbfounded. And I still have a hard time believing those results are real. If current players are the ones voting, they are the ones who have first hand knowledge at how easy it is to level up and I don't see how they see any purpose in the new one. Wonder what RoI is going to do now |
