| Brandywine to No surprise for welcome back weekend has been going Boom all am and night. When you already highest population server and have 297 players just outside pranceing pony hugging it in Bree, not kidding either not counting rest Bree and high level and mid level zones then you know have serious issues. |

+17 Internets | Trying this out now on Brandywine server. Got a Rune Keeper, Lore Master, and Minstrel all through the newbie grounds. Will be sticking with the Hobbit Minstrel since it is seems like a great class and reminds me a bit of EQ Bards. First impressions: - besides WoW, I can't really think of another US MMO that looks so good for such low systems specs. WAR runs likes garbage on my laptop, yet LOTR runs 60fps+ and looks vastly better. - art direction is pretty good. Probably only WoW beats it for consistency. Even their website is very nicely done. - Animations seems ok for the most part. Someone mentioned them being sub-par, but they seem fine really. Better than most of the competition, WAR, EQ1, EQ2, etc. but I guess those aren't hard to beat in the animation department. - UI isn't bad imho. Not a complete WoW-clone UI so it takes some getting used to. - There needs to be another MMOG with Bards. Mistrel is pretty fun so far. ![]() When trying to name my characters, it seemed like all reasonable variations of every D+D, EQ1, and Forgotten Realms reference I could think of were already taken on Brandywine. I guess I wasn't only one to try to name a Bard some variation of Selo. Finally ended up with Bruscoe since Brusco was taken. Tried to make an Elf Archer named Rakhir and that was taken. When trying to name the RK + LM, all variations of just about every classic D+D wizard name was taken: Melf, Bibgy, Tenser, Gax, Xagyg, etc. Even "Melkor" was taken, which is Vin Diesel's D+D character. Apparently LOTR players know their D+D trivia. ![]() Last edited by Froofy-D; 03-29-2009 at 04:45 PM.. |

| We bawlin boi! | Yea, Brandywine here as well. I've started over about 5x already screwing around with classes to find something I like. Made a dwarf guardian and diggin it so far, though Bree is a *much* easier starting area to level quickly. The art, animations, ui etc are all very good...only second to WoW imo....and without all the shitheads from that game too (though Ive seen a few...probably from the free weekend). And yea, Im blown away how beautiful the game is with everything cranked up (even shadows) in dx10....its breathtaking in some areas. Oh, and the music fucking owns, I love just chilling out in taverns while Im afk or something listening to the music.

It was the name of the vala that turned against the good guys, eventually named morgoth by the elves. He was banished to the void at the end of the first age, but is still worshiped by the bad guys. Bit of useless trivia for ya ![]() |

TolkienWiki: Melkor I read all of LOTR + The Hobbit multiple times, but even I couldn't get through Silmarillion. I guess Vin Diesel is a hardcore LOTR fan to have read it. ![]()

Anyway the game does look great especially for such an old game. It's not ALWAYS great looking, some stuff is pretty barren, but damn some zones are pretty fucking awesome. Evendim is beautiful, Angmar has tons of wtf places, Forochel is really nice, and the early stuff really fits with the images you'd get from the books. The animations are pretty decent, if you don't jump, but the rest really is ok, combat has some cool ones, and the horse animations are better than in any other mmo I've played, and you'd think they'd get it right by now. And all this run fine on low end computers, which I think is one of the reasons this game is popular. I've finally went past my usual lvl 40 > reroll limit on this LM, it's a really fun class. Now I'm dual wielding a staff and a sword, and raping mobs left and right, everything's pretty easy and I haven't died in a while. Looking forward to moria content, then I'll give myself the right to play an alt for fun, probably a rune keeper they look nice. This game does have some severe flaws though, but not severe enough to make it a bad game, it's just the kind of things that stick with the game and you get used to it, just like inventory management in wow, bosses killing pets all the fucking time and pvp changes affecting pve, stuff like that ^^.

+8 Internets | Everything bad, I mean really bad, in Lotro is tied to its UI. You can't sell with right clicks, but have to use a special sell tab on the vendor, you can't right click on items to send them to the bank and backwards, you can't check quickly buffs and debuffs because they are stuck under your portrait in 3x3 format, you can't buy items in a specific quantity but only one a time or one stack a time, etc. etc. etc. I logged in WoW to empty mailboxes and gift some stuff away since I canceled my sub and god, wow UI is so much better in comparison, that just making a comparison is insulting. Truth be told, in the end I got used to Lotro one, and some things are not as ugly as they seem on a first glance, but spending some time fixing some crappy features should be a goddamn priority, especially making a buff/debuff bar, movable and resizable. As far as class design goes, they are all quite interesting, I like the lore master and the warden a lot, but minstrel and rune keeper are quite fun as well. Player-wise, I must attract the terribads like a magnet, I pugged a dungeon on my minstrel (great barrow) and the 5 people with me did everything that could be done wrong almost like following a checklist, including typing "HEAL" in caps and saying "thanks for healing me" after each spell cast. We couldn't even kill the first boss since everyone was trying to get agro on it (ignoring the adds owning me and breaking my mez and fear regularly 3s after I applied them). Between 2 captains and a RK, I did not get a single fucking heal in the whole run. I had to unplug my modem at one point, I must say the average wow pug would have been like playing with Nihilum players in comparison. Most of the players in the low and mid levels are like that, totally unaware of the tank-healer-cc-dps paradigm, totally inept at their class and just happy to wipe over and over smashing random buttons. The problem is that wiping a few times can destroy your money. On my minstrel I decided to recraft my own armor after that pug, because it costed me way less than repairing it (over 100s for repairs holy fucking shit, with 400s at my name).

| Same here, done an elf and human to the start of chapter 1 proper and being sent to Bree etc and it seemed like night and day between the amount of running around you have to do in the human area compared to dwarf/elves. That's after a small revamp as well, I remember it being even worse around the Marsh quests but they have stuck an npc out near the NeekerBreeker chap who you turn in the goblin killing ones to. Will see how many people are around once the freebie experience turns off after tomorrow and if it looks viable I will probably be buying this on the founder trial account. Currently chosen a Captain ahead of a Champion although they feel far more squishy compared to the Champ even with the limited healing they get. I died at 14 to the Spider Queen's army, doh >.<

| We bawlin boi! | I dunno, theres a ton of quests in the swamp area so I didnt even really notice it as much while doing the book storyline. Looking at it now that Im a little higher level, I think from 10-15 is easier in the dwarf area, 1-10 I found much faster in the human area though. Might just be because I was more familiar with it too.

+39 Internets | Well as I said don't know about dwarf, but elf is definitely faster up to 15, at which point you're done with ered luin anyway so have to move your ass to bree to pick up some quests. The big change that made it faster is they added a horse to that hunter camp thing, and all the routes are 1silver, so you can just horse between the various towns, while in the human area you still mostly walk, after archet you walk to combe, and then you have a bazilion of quests in the bandit camp to the east, and you run back and forth, then you move a bit into staddle and you have tons of running to do again between the different hobbits and then into the marsh and back. In comparison elf stuff is much more steamlined and you rarely get to run to the same area twice for a serie of quests, you're done with each place once you've been there. Dwarf might be different though. |

| a couple of tips that may help: 1) global channels They tend to high-end Barrens chat sometimes, but there are set of global channels for ooc, lff, trade and advice (I think). /advice and /regional are good for basic WTF questions. GOOC is global chat, GLFF is global LFF. /joinchannel GOOC (has to be in caps). One problem is the chat client wont show these by name -- they end up being "userchat1" or "userchat2" etc. based on the order you created them. So need to remember. 2) making buttons The lack of map notes is a pain, but it's easier now with the helpquest beta tool. The in-game map now shows coords with mouse hover, but you can get /loc anytime with the following: /alias ;map /tell me ;loc /alias shortcut ;map 51 Where ;map is whatever the name you choose for the alias, and 51 is whatever the quickslot is you choose for it to appear in. This will send a /tell to you with the /loc coords. |

| Thanks for the chat channel info, really useful after my eyes were bleeding after an hour argument in /ooc while I was doing the North of Bree lines between morons discussing who would win between Sauron and Tom Bombadil if they had a fight. No, not one person suggested whoever was first to take off either ![]()
