[WoW] Dual Monitors

I am trying to set up wow to play with two monitors, so that my secondary monitor can be blacked out and have my hot bars, map, etc. I am running vista and have been searching around on google and i still can't seem to get it to work.

I tried creating a custom resolution with nvidia but when ever i do 1920x2400 my primary monitor goes blank.

Does it matter that my primary monitor is #1 and my secondary monitor is #3? I have two 8800 GTS 512s but i can't fit two dvi inputs on the same card (they are too bulky).

I know it is possible but i'm not sure why my custom resolution isn't working like it should. I must be doing something wrong.

I did this once, it ended up not being as cool as i wanted...but..

Not sure if its the same in vista, but the dual monitor mode you want is called span or something.

basically its the mode that stretches your whole taskbar and desktop across both monitors as a single resolution (instead of 2x 1920x1200 its 3840x1200).

edit: on closer inspection it doesn't look like the option is available on vista with nvidia drivers. I did it once on xp tho...

Portal - Dual-Boxing.com Community Forum They should have your answers there. There was another thread posted here about dual monitors, and there was some program that made it easy. Try searching.

I did not have good luck using 2 monitors with WoW. I found out when I tried to do this that it simply chops off your 1 monitor view by 1/4 on the top and bottom and enlarges the rest across 2 screens.

Currently multiple monitors doesn't work with SLI (unless I missed something recent).

There's an article here which seems to be what you're looking for -> Dual-heading and WoW: a how-to guide - WoW Insider

Yeah, obviously i have sli turned off. I've been looking around and i don't think this will work because nvidia doesn't have horizontal span on vista. Which is needed. Unless someone has found away around this issue..

The new Nvidia drivers enable SLI over multiple monitors.

You sure? I have 180.48 and when i enable sli my secondary monitor goes blank. Does it matter that i have each monitor hooked up to a separate card?

Hrmm I know that the new SLI drivers are supposed to. The "Big Bang II" ones. I will look into it and try to figure it out.

180.84 is the latest right? Didn't see anything about improving sli in the notes. I tried them out but i would bsod when playing wow. So i had to go back to the official one.

yes, enabling SLI disables the ports on the 2nd card. If you want to do dual monitors and SLI, the monitors need to be connected to the same card. If your dvi cables are too bulky to connect, dvi extenstion cables might help. small fyi, dvi doesn't go over 5m (~16 feet) very well.

I strongly recommend you use your second monitor for watching porn because WoW is easy.

With sli enabled i get about half the frames i use to get with each monitor having it's own dedicated gpu. Anyone else have a similar issue? Or do you think it could be driver related? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Someone needs to post a screenshot of one WoW client with dual monitors. I can't imagine what you would do with all that real estate for WoW. The hassle of having to monitor the hotbars or whatever else on the other side of the screen seems to outweigh the benefits.

Here's what my setup looks like...
