| [quote=Quineloe;1282190]What are the fond memories we have of EQ? Camping Stormfeather, AC, Raster? Or was it rather the very diverse, very interesting content and the fact that it was new and unique at that time? Far as immersion goes my heart still raced last time I fought Vox and Naggy. Doing the EPoP questline and doing the starter coldain ring quest are still untarnished if you have some people to share the experience with. Obviously anyone interested in a new prog server has been there and done that with at least everything in the Trilogy but its been so long....could you find your way to Seb with out using allakhazam or a map? If you found the zone do you remember how to do the key quest? How much of any given epic could you do with out a guide? Your last paragraph makes you sound like a whiner, I can't include anyone else in this but as an example. I play WoW right now and last week I finished out my T7/7.5 but big deal right? I ran Heroic UP for Red Sword of Courage every day for most a week, but big deal right? My heart never raced. I leveled up a warrior and cleric in EQ last year and when I even saw the Knight of Unrest spawn my heart jumped, let alone getting the damn tunic. Whatever the rules are I will give it the old college try. From what I can see the majority of the people willing to sub back are most interested in something that is time based, 3 months seems like the magic number in their minds. I think that content is too easy to burn though to just do a copy and paste of the current progression rule set. Also their new gear has to go, closer to 1999 we get the better. Ephron

| EQ2 had real potential to have as much staying power as EQ1, and a lot of people including myself enjoyed it for a period of time. It had soul for sure, more than AoC and WAR. Although it did suffer from "fragmented" world syndrome (dock teleports to different zones....huh?), much like AoC and WAR did. I am not sure why fragmented compartmentalized world design became so popular. Its unfortunate that it was mismanaged at launch, and had so many fundamental design flaws such as the combat skills (playing the piano), etc. Im currently not playing anything, but I was considering dipping back into EQ2 while we wait for the next heap of shit to come out. Does anyone know the current status of the Nagafen server?

You may be telling the truth about playing EQ 8 years ago, but you can't have been anything more than a lost clueless scrub as far as any advanced content was concerned. You may have thought you were 'playing us fools like pawns' with your amazing trade prowess, but unless you were a gold seller, plat had zero use for any raider. Everything we got was no drop/no trade. On the rare occasion that we might have wanted to acquire some of the 3 year old content that you were living and trading in (perhaps a Fungi for another twink) We could pop over to the western wastes and solo a dragon that shared Naggys loot table (CoF's) for some quick cash. If you really knew your shit, you wouldn't have been wasting time in the trade tunnel. ----- Just because we look back at many of the EQ game play elements and say we would never put up with some of that shit given the current alternatives doesn't mean we didn't enjoy the hell out of EQ back when it represented the best in the genre. It often seems to me that it is/was the EQer's who hadent quite reached the leading edge that are the biggest group to have stayed on with the game as other (yes, better) games have come along. My guess is that it's because they have invested their time into learning the game, the world and characters, but had not yet gotten a peak at what they thought the prize was. Those who spent some time at the end game on the other hand were well aware that the prize is simply a moving target, and that you should aim to get the most you can out of the journey. These games don't have mystical final prizes that will ever justify putting up with shitty game play.

Oh god, that Othmir music used to drive me up a wall. It'd kick in when I was running from the port in over to the SG zoneline and I'd turn my speakers down so I couldn't hear it. On another note: PC Games Music! Free Midi Downloads! Not a complete database, but it's a good chunk of the original stuff. | |

+78 Internets | I could be mistaken as it was a long time ago but taking down a raid boss with a PUG never happened the first few years of EQ. I always remember doing them with guildies only and rarely a few unguilded people or RL friend of guildies. Different servers different communities I guess, Veeshan server then Saryrn. I think it was something before veeshan but again so long ago. |

| Far as pug raids go in the early days; I hear that Karana was a very different server from the others in a lot of ways and one of those ways was that we had a KCG (Karana Council of Guilds). The function of the KCG was to set up a raid rotation for the majority of the bosses, guild X has boss X next. Every major guild supported the system so the system worked. Anyway the KCG would do pug naggy/vox every 6-8 weeks and this started during Kunark Era. I got invited to my first Naggy raid while running through the commonlands to freeport while I was level 45. Random player asked me to come along, 30ish noobs buffed by the "ubber" level 60s downed him. On my first Vox raid I actually didn't listen to the instructions and fell down a pit trap so I missed the entire fight. Pugs can work if you have enough leadership followed by enough people who know how to listen. Ephron
