1. Time locks sucked... even when you wanted to "relive" the old experience. One of the best things about the progression servers were the economy resets and the fuckton of other people to play with while you leveled. The content lockout on timers did nothing to bring back the old eq nostalgia. People say they want to experience EVERYTHING all over again, but as soon as uberguild_001 unlocks the new expansion, the legions of "roleplaying circa '99" scrubs are skipping content to get the newest/best items available to them now. Instead, make a forced progression system for each character. You have to kill Nag/Vox to zone into or use Kunark items/zones. You have to kill Phara Dar in order to open Velious up to your character. Ya, the back flagging for guilds is a bitch, and the guild cock blocking would be in full swing... but wait a minute... competition was always at the heart of EQ. For me, I look back at the competitive nature of EQ, compare it to WoW, and miss it tremendously. You put this system in place, and everyone is truly on their own pace of progression. You want to take things slowly, fine, but you gotta kill that god damn dragon if you want to experience jungle rott on your junk in the swamps of Kunark. You want to be cutting edge, this system is perfect for you also. 2. Your other ideas sucked, but this is an epic-bad idea. There was nothing, I mean NOTHING hardcore about leveling on the progression server. So much easy-mode nub shit has been implemented into the game since launch, it is almost a different game. All the races/classes had they own noob area quest gear. New face-pwn low level spells have been added for all the casters. Items like black iron weapons and caster spell enhancement gear were very attainable as soon as level 20. I am not advocating they change the current game, but to easy-mode it up any further would be retarded. 3. You start changing encounters and you might as well make a new game. The only thing harder content/encounters mean in EQ were the number of people you brought to the fight. So you are just advocating that the zerg mobs get a bit more swolled. The more advanced encounters come later in the progression of EQ, which is the way it should be. Last edited by bobyab; 12-22-2008 at 04:56 PM.. | |

| Alright. I'll admit maybe #1 and 2 are bad ideas. But I don't understand why #3 would be a bad idea. We've already spent countless days played on a character in EQ working through all the encounters and learning them. Why would you want to waste more doing the same shit? That's why people raped all the content in the first progression server. Everyone knew what the fuck to do. I'm not talking about completely changing the events to where they are unrecognizable, just altering the "gimmick" so that you bring back the challenge of learning encounters for second time. edit: this idea more pertains to advanced encounters a la high end velious and beyond. Naggy/Vox probably don't need to be changed, I was just using it as a basic example.

| What are the fond memories we have of EQ? Camping Stormfeather, AC, Raster? Or was it rather the very diverse, very interesting content and the fact that it was new and unique at that time? For me it's the latter. The immersive feeling won't come back, ever. The innocence of the genre, with information not being posted all over the internet is gone. The players that made EQ worth playing to begin with are not there anymore either Nothing SOE can do will ever change that. Running through Kithicor forest at 5pm ingame time because you need to get to highpass and - oh my god am I still going the right way I dont wanna die - in 2000 and doing the same thing in 2008 just for the sake of doing it won't be the same, not even close. It's not worth coming back to EQ for this isn't possible, and that's unique to the genre. You want to play the final terran mission of Starcraft again? install - run - play. Raynor is still there. Kerrigan is still there. Replay Doom? Spider Mastermind didn't go anywhere. You want to hit the Froglok King again for that fancy M2H? Sorry pal. That game does not exist anymore in the form you once enjoyed. You're simply sick, ruination. nobody enjoyed these camps back then just like nobody would enjoy them today. They were done for the same reason people grind Sons of Whoredir to exalted today - it's what you can do for character progression. Last edited by Quineloe; 12-22-2008 at 05:48 PM.. |

| Don't forget that the average IQ of MMORPG players has dropped by over 50 since the "good old EQ days" as well. Back in the "good old days", drooling morons with their "u", "ur", "ne1", "wut", "plz", etc. were regarded as the complete idiots that they are and treated as total pariahs on EQ servers. Nowadays, there isn't a single guild in WoW that isn't a solid 50%+ of these imbeciles. |

@Aychamo: I'm 18, so yeah I guess I have more free time than some on these boards. But the only thing I really ever wasted time on was epic camps. I never camped an fbss or some shit for 20+ hrs, nah fuck that. I was an economy whore, I bought and sold like nobodies business. I made money off the idiots that wasted their time on that shit, played you fools like pawns.

+16 Internets | So in EQ's heyday you were uh, 10? Back when EQ was still marginally relevant you were 14 or so? "Relish the competition" ? Get the fuck out of here.
