[WoW] Going too far: Chinese opens WoW themed restaurant.

I just saw this on the news and thought to myself -Ok these guys are really going to far with this game- :

Quote:
Online role-playing games are booming in China. The influence of virtual world is spreading even into day to day life. A newly opened Beijing restaurant captures the trend. The interior decoration of the place is inspired by one popular online game.

The restaurant's entrance is a real-life re-creation of the opening animation from the game, The World of Warcraft. The dining area is called the Hall of Snow Storms." Here, an immense plasma screen displays action from the game. There's a towering tree at the centre of the dining "portal," creating a pleasing ambience for leisurely diners. Most patrons are fans of the multi-player game

Guarding the walls of the dining area are warriors clad in ancient armor. The walls are highlighted by graphical images taken from the game.

The owner of the restaurant said he created the diner in the hope that people who share his enthusiasm for The World of Warcraft would find a comfortable gathering place.

In addition to the interior decoration, game features dominate the menu selection. Diners choose from dishes named after denizens of the virtual world.

I wonder if this is Kosher with Blizzard's IP.

So all you have to do is put two game boxes in a glass case to get worldwide free advertising for your restaraunt?

Actually its VERY wow themed, thoise pictures dont do it justice at all.

I saw a 5 minute special on the restaurant on the news last week, all that I was thinking was "holy shit, they are getting sued"

It's actually done VERY well, looks awesome, they have tons of wow murals and the menu is based on wow food etc.

EDIT:
Found a shortened version of the news article I mentioned. CCTV.com - Beijing restaurant captures online game trend

I'm assuming this has already been done for Lineage? Maybe StarCraft for South Korea?

I'm not sure I'll ever touch WoW again, but I must admit that's preaty sweet. I've read some posts on other websites and it seems a lot people are playing it down, or think its too ridiculous. It's just some guy with money on his hands wanting to spread the love for one of his hobbies that just so happens to be widely popular. I can't see anything wrong or "nerdy" about that. It's just like some millionaire opening a restaurant themed around football or poker simply because a lot of people enjoy it and its a place people can go to eat that share the same interests. I don't know if places like this would ever become mainstream, but if they have the audience to bring in the dough, then why not?
