| Not quite accurate. There were various pieces of +spell power available from the beginning of the game, but they functioned entirely different than they do today. Mostly greens and such, but they were there.

| I don't think it is that. Aside from items that are connected to direct emotional experiences or personal events/stories a good chunk of the items listed are listed because of what they allowed you to do. If you look at it from that perspective than items aren't much different than any other mechanics or class abilities and there are certainly a few mechanics/abilities in every MMO I've played that I like very much. I'm still waiting for another MMO to give me Super Jump, damn it. |

| As a cleric: Weapon: Cleric epic 1.0. THe water sprinkler shit. Turned you from a valuable member to being a fucking god with it. Free rezes was amazing. Best epic still, by far. Item: Jboots. Cause not having SoW or snare as a cleric was damn near death half the time. Plus, being on a pvp server... As a monk: Weapon: Tranquil Staff. This shit still goes for lots of money is a testament to how fucking awesome this kunark weapon is. Item: Celestial Fists and the robe from the Monk Epic. Because after camping a week for that buttfucker Raster, it was awesome having a clicky haste item and a cool looking robe along the way too. Honorable mention: FBSS. Because a first haste item was just too damn amazing. Needless to say, EQ being awesome was as someone pointed out: it was like D&D in taht there were character changing items and attributes to the game. It was like Dark Elves getting Ultravision while Humans were blind, but Dark Elves got shafted on some stats. Unfortunately, some things like that don't work out that well in MMO's (but it certainly built character and made shit interesting). But item wise, it was brilliant - some items never really got replaced. Fungi tunic, Jboots, Cleric epic, etc. Hell, some items lasted a long time, like FBSS, Tranquil Staff, etc. |

| Cleric epic 1.0 gets shelved in Secret's of Faydwer xpack. They added an AA that cast a 96% res in 4 sec, with a 12 sec cooldown. 6 year life span for a single item. Only EQ is able to pull this itemization success off. Though, cleric epic 2.0 (3 min reuse balance all party member hitpoints, cure all diseases/maladies, and 2300 hp group heal) does an awesome job of being inventory click item #1 EQ was awesome in how there were "overpowered" items, spells and abilities left right and center. Because there were so many, no one really considered them "overpowered." They were also necessary to survive in the harshness of the early game. Modern MMO's and devs refuse to take that risk. WoW had a few of them (SoA, Ramstein bolts, etc), but they got curbstomped quickly because they were too few. |

| Weapon: Short Sword Of Ykesha Badassest shit ever, back in the day. I dreamt my level 11 ranger might one day hold on of these babies. Was so happy when that higher level ranger helped me get a short sword of morin, that looked just like a yak! armor: That blue armor bards got, shit, Lambent armor. It was the brightest colored stuff and you could pick them out a mile away. And the plate graphics - so cool at the time.

| They seriously just need to take away all the dyes and shit from the game, and put back in the old models with support for mounts. Why the hell not? The UNIVERSAL sentiment is that the new models blow. |

| Getting my druid epic for EQ was the coolest shit ever. I remember drawing little pictures of it on my college notebooks and shit like a little girl. But I gotta say...getting my war bear mount was pretty fucking cool. Spending a night storming the old horde cities was well worth it. Defintelty the coolest achievement they added which still makes you believe you earned it. |

| I would have to say my favorite weapon was my monk epic. Luckily I didn't have to camp raster but for maybe about 4 hours and he popped, I couldn't believe it. Played a Monk(Lonoans) and a Mage (Lonoan) on Vazaelle server. Those were the good ol days. But now I am older so there is no possible way I could do the grinding I did in old school EQ. So casual WoW is perfect for me. But I really did have a since of really accomplishing something when I got those glowing fist, as had been said previously in this thread and many others. |
