How much you wanna bet Blizzard will tell people that due to Brewfest the earliest you can complete the achievements is October '10, so you'll have a second chance at the valentine's day achievements before then.

Actually, even though Brewfest 08 happened prior to the implementation of the Achievements system, the preview of most Achievements could be found on most spoiler websites (WoWhead namely), and as such, many people ended up grinding for the Brew of the Month Membership before the holiday ended since it was evident from the preview that you'd need the 12 brews to get the achievement. Thus, for a lot of people, the earliest the mount will be attainable is Brewfest 09, not 10.

The only people that are definately screwed (but then it's not really unfair since they started AFTER Brewfest) are the Death Knights and the people who just picked up the game.

Or don't hang around spoiler sites looking for small details which will give them an edge when beta content is released ? Or didn't realise achievements were going to have useful rewards ? Or weren't playing at that point due to lack of content ? Or decided to give warhammer a bash ? Or thought that blizzard couldn't possibly be that stupid ?

Aren't the raiding achievements drakes the same mount speed (310%)?

Probably end up with one of those long before finishing the holiday achievement one.

To be fair, while I can understand not actively looking for that information, most people use spoiler websites from time to time, and there was a big disclaimer on WoWhead's main page that said 'ACHIEVEMENTS' weeks before Brewfest started.

This mount is probably more useful than the other achievement mounts (Albino Drake, Black War Bear...) because it is 310%, but there are two other mounts that can be rewarded from achievements that require less time (Plagued and Black).

In my opinion, if you stop playing a game and later come back to it (which is understandable from time to time), you can hardly blame the game for putting in content you missed while you were gone. Besides, the expansion was just around the corner, a lot of people I know came back around Brewfest to tie up a few loose ends (reputations, quest lines, get some honor, etc..).

See above, you can't really blame Blizzard for putting in some things while you were away trying another game.

This particular achievement requires a whole year to complete, and all other achievements require all the holidays that happen during a whole year, so a minimum of research prior to the Brewfest ending would have told anyone that this was THE achievement not to miss, or you have to wait another year. This is why they have fine-print labels, to make the difference between people that are curious and want to know more, and the people that just go with the flow.

That said, I'm quite certain that Blizzard will eventually remove that achievement from the meta-achievement, probably around the time when Brewfest 09 comes around. Personnally, I'll have my mount on Brewfest 09.

Congrats on your fishing contest pre-achievements. We don't care. Fishing had absolutely no purpose back then. You could buy the cooked food on ah, thus giving no purpose to having the skill itself. I furthermore don't buy the bullshit "Salty is a reward for the true fishers, not just achievement whores" since, hey, fishing is retarded and pointless. Achievements are the only things you can do at 80 not on raid night to kill time anyway. Go on, try to win the contest now that salty is in the game. You can't.

If you only get 32 pledges, it is your own fault. Period. The game does not need to be dumbed down just so people who can't even play the god damned game can achieve it. Hey why not have valentines run for a full year with you getting the achievement automatically if you just log in! If you want the achievement, learn to prioritize.

.. unlike Salty which can dangle the carrot in front of you every week and is at least a little skill based, you have to wait a year to try this one again.
I'd love to hear how it's skill based at all. Having quick reactions helps but it is 100% luck. Luck in how many people happen to crowd the area you're fishing. Luck in how many of them are opposite faction. Luck in how many of your casts are tastyfish. Luck in how long your casts take. Luck in where the pools respawn. I have had sundays where I got only 24 fish before someone wins and I know how to move across the map and fish. As for week vs year, I fail to see the difference. Fishing contest is 30 minutes out of the week, or about 0.3% of the time. Love in the Air is 5 days out of the year or 1.37% of the time. Even if you cut it in half due to sleep it's still available for more time out of the year than the fishing contest. The fact one has its segments 52 times more frequently is irrelevant. If you didn't win the week before, you're not going to win this week either.

Perhaps they could make like a violet proto drake token drop off Loken? Or maybe if you are a mage and stack 3 arcane blasts in a arena match, violet proto drakes appear for everyone on your team?

I've gotten all the holiday achieves so far on my 5 box team, Valentines day was definitely the worst with Be Mine, but after the hotfix it wasn't too bad imo (I ended up with 5+ bags of candy on each of my guys by sunday when I stopped - just logged in once every 2 hours on all my guys, spent 1 minute, logged off).

Childrens Week is gonna suck, especially if the WSG flag-return is for you alone, and not if someone on the raid returns the flag.

The holiday achievements are a brilliant biz strategy -- for many people it will keep them sub'd till Oct 2010, and playing very infrequently. For others, it will keep them sub'd during downtimes between patches (like now) since you can't get your "brew of the month" unsub'd. Whats funny is on my server I see more and more Molten Core, BWL, AQ40, etc pugs than ever now, as all the bored people are just looking for stuff to do.

Under Development: Ulduar

Quote:
Many players have already gotten their Wrath of the Lich King raiding feet wet in Naxxramas and the Sartharion raid, but Ulduar is the first example of the expansion's much larger, truly epic scope of raiding, as will be evident from the second you set foot in the instance. The most obvious difference between Ulduar and its predecessors is that the dungeon actually comprises two separate raid areas. The first section is an epic battle against a vast army standing between you and the entrance of the dungeon proper; in the second area, you will dive into the heart of the dungeon itself and finally discover the secrets of Ulduar.

Ulduar's new master has rallied his own massive Iron Army to guard the entrance to Ulduar and to prevent any unwanted guests - including you, especially you - from reaching the inner sanctum. Thankfully, you'll be able to face the Iron Army on even footing: although the main Horde and Alliance forces are focused on the forces beyond the Wrathgate and on each other, some who are better able to appreciate the true magnitude of Ulduar's threat have managed to scrap together a small fleet of siege vehicles to aid you in the assault.

You and your friends will have to use these vehicles wisely to break through Ulduar's defenses. A mix of motorcycles, demolishers, and siege engines will be at your disposal, each granting unique abilities to the pilot and the passenger. Motorcycle drivers, for example, can create pools of liquid tar that snare opponents and can be set on fire by area effect attacks, while demolisher passengers can load themselves into the vehicle's catapult so that the pilot can launch them into the distance. If used judiciously, these and other abilities will help decimate the Iron Army and any other threats lying in wait between you and Ulduar.

One such threat is the Flame Leviathan. After you've plowed through the innumerable ranks of the Iron Army, you will be confronted by an enormous tank. Mimiron built the Flame Leviathan as part of the V0-L7R-0N weapons platform, which means that it packs quite a punch. Normal spells and abilities won't be enough to take down this juggernaut, so you will have to rely on your siege vehicles to outmaneuver and defeat the boss. After wearing the massive war machine down, you will have to launch players onto the tank's back to destroy its defense turrets and sabotage the Leviathan before you can move on. Of course, if you'd like an additional challenge beyond this naturally frantic (but extremely fun) fight, you can try your hand at one of the Flame Leviathan's different Hard Modes (see sidebar).

Of course, the vehicle gauntlet, the Iron Army, and the battle against the Flame Leviathan are only the start of World of Warcraft's most ambitious raid to date. Patch 3.1 will hit the Public Test Realms very soon, so you will be able to see for yourself what other challenges await beyond the gates of ancient Ulduar.
