+11 Internets | I admit that when I pre-ordered my CE I kind of acted like it was a drug deal or something. It's 100% different but I'm stuck in the Ye old days of EQ when I was a leper for buying that shit in Best Buy and the only other people I knew that played were 1/2 step up from yetis. Today when I picked it up I didn't really give a shit and the mostly attractive girl behind the counter complained that no one today came in from her server. Pretty much nullified my distress. |

WoW has millions of subscribers because it doesn't need to be dumbed down, it's simple enough at the most basic level, yet complex enough at the highest levels that most people who actually give a shit about pve are playing it.

Beyond that my last job had a fair few players, usually it would come up once every shift or so, and this job had a fairly broad spectrum of 16 - 20ish people working there, again no real stigma. It comes up every so often in social situations as well, classes/parties/in town, obviously it's not something that dominates the discussion, but there's often an off hand mention and a 'oh hey you play? what server?' etc for a minute or two. As long as you're not 'that guy' who talks about it for hours on end in the company of people who don't play, nobody seems to care. I think it must just be a cultural thing, because I'm sure we have a lower % of players here than in the US (I've never seen game stores packed out on the morning of release, or selling out).

The only dumbing down occurred would be the instances in TBC...and this only happened at the end of TBC so people could actually see Illidan and maybe KilJaeden. Other than that, there was absolutely no "dumbing" down.

![]() I just ran with a bunch of sports stereotypes that folks could consider strange/unusual, but are generally considered to be 'socially acceptable.' Quote:
There are some people who will geek it up for something special, but are generally normal, well adjusted folks otherwise. And no, I'm not denying that there are headcases out there or that there aren't any on this forum.

I quit playing the beta just before they nerfed everything on the DK, yet I'm happy to see they didn't actually break the classes like they did with warlocks on vanilla wow(massive nerf during phase2, then no buff until after release, locks fucking sucked at release). I'm unsure how they managed though, cause like, prenerf I was killing everything AE in one rotation, and now I'm still killing stuff in one rotation, or close enough, yet I'm not unholy blighting for 350/s and stupid shit like that. Same with single target, but I think this is due to icy touch not sucking anymore, and deathcoil being better than I remember. Maybe they boosted disease damage, can't tell. Anyway, hit 69 earlier, and I can say I was happier in outlands. I would see no one, and chain quests and shit, now in northrend it's full of retards everywhere, and this coupled with the fact I went from solo my DK to triboxing which means characters getting stuck in fucking walls and looting 30stupid shit on the ground, 10 of which on a small window on my 2nd computer, not very fun. But at least I finally replaced my Giantstalker and R13 gear on my hunter. Can't believe he's been 70 for all of BC(dual boxed it with my be paladin, was my old 60main) and still was sporting lvl 60epics on almost every slot. And the worse? I've seen some northrend quest rewards that were worse than my fucking ZG/MC/R13 loot. Yay for retarded itemization, I so want a piece of mail with high stam, high haste and a bit of crit with 0AP/agi. I think tomorrow during primetime, if questing blows, I'll go back to netherstorm/smv on my DK, buy a flying mount, and just do quests there with no competition, should be better xp/hour. Edit: Server jumped from medium to full with wotlk release. I'm sure warhammer took a big hit, but there's a ton of people simply returning for the expansion who quit before and use the opportunity of the gear reset to catch up. In my guild it seems there's 4 returning members(out of 40), 2 of which are DKs. Will probably calm down later on though, when some people figure wow is still wow. | A lot of players from Warhammer probably left to try it out and I'm sure several newcomers are checking it out. The queues will most likely die down in a couple days.

| I hit 71 on my team today, completely with questing - about 6 hours, a lot of 15 minute breaks though. I gotta say, I am totally impressed with WOTLK. The atmosphere, graphics, music are all head and shoulders above TBC. Quests are for the most part the same ol' fedex/bear-asses, but outside of WARs PQs (which have their own flaws) I haven't really seen many new impressive things in questing recently anyways. The zones are much bigger than TBC, and "feel" much better too -- the Howling Fjord northern areas reminded me a LOT of Age of Conan for some reason. I want to defect from Horde to the Viking faction, lol. I really am enjoying the view, monsters, and graphics a lot. For example, for horde, go to Camp Winterhoof in Howling Fjord. The tauren there look very different than previous Taurens, the faces are better defined -- its actually pretty creepy looking to me. But all the monsters look much better now, especially with graphics cranked up and shadows maxxed. On my server there are a bunch of 75/76s already, its crazy. I'm taking it nice and slow, aiming for 50-70% of a level a day for the next 2 weeks over 3-4 hours/day. Having a blast so far. Everyone in my guild who has started a DK has said its the funnest class in WoW, can't wait to roll my DK alt team in a few months either. |

| Logged out tonight for the first time at about 45% into 73. Not too fast, but not too slow. I didn't play beta and didn't plan out anything in advance; server is full as shit, lots of competition for the most part. I'm a ~T6 equivalent geared Enhance Shaman, Alliance. So far, it's a blast. Zones are amazing visually, I LOVE the music, and the quests are pretty fun, outside the type we're all used to (kill this shit here, etc). I've gotten one upgrade for my leveling enhance spec (nice trinket out of Borean Tundra), and a new cloak for my Resto set as well (from a Nexus dungeon quest). No bugged quests, broken shit, stable as hell, no lag. This is all on Cenarius, btw. So far, so good! I figure I can hit 76 by Sunday night playing not-casually-but-not-super-hardcore. Also, as of right now we have a 69 or 70 Death Knight (Afterlife from EQ is on the server, think it may be Thott's DK actually), and a 75 or 76 Gnome Warr (also Afterlife). |

| I have to say aside from the queues and the downtime before wotk release, it's been very very smooth altogether.
