| I am so trying this game once it gets more polish and content(1/2 to 1 year), may even impulse buy. To all people who got into mmos via WoW, semi-forced grouping and a tight community and _can_ be ten times the fun. If i had decided to play this from start i would have gotten shit for raid content, laggggg and would have paid more then 1000 euros for a decent computer. Now i paid a week ago 300 for a quad-something phenom, get some actual content and most bugs are gone. Imo the only way to endure shitty MMO product quality. Let the game mature up to 3 years. PS: lulz for -nets |

| It wasnt really llaaag that killed it for some in VG, it was the constant stuttering. Every time you enterred a new area your system chugged trying to load all the assets on the fly. Also the "chunking" was a problem for some, like whenever you entered a new chunk you would die, or have a load time. I never had chunking problems but many others did. The world also needed to be fleshed out more. All the content they did have was cool, but the shit in between was basically a wasteland of nothingness with shitty travel times. I remember they gave me a horse to buy but my wolf form was faster travel (Shaman). They should have increased the horses speed like 100% in this game.

+49 Internets | But long travel times make the game more immersive!!11! I can't believe how many people try to defend shit like that. Even the so called "Pro Travel Time" crowd probably think to themselves "Fuck having to run this 10 minute run for the 100th time..."

| It wasn't that it took ten minutes to get anywhere was the problem...it was that the large land masses in between the POI were lifeless and barren. VG actually had a decent amount of content at launch (except for the endgame) but it was spread so thin among the 3 huge continents that it felt like there wasn't enough content. |

| I just did Vault of the Hidden yesterday for the first time. That place is huge! I'm adding it to my long list of favorite vanguard dungeons. BTW, has anyone ever done the summon quests in Karrus Hakrel? After you summon the fallen raiders you can summon a giant crab who hits like a truck and drops two heroics per kill. You need 80 aqual orbs to summon him.

+71 Internets | You have to remember the type of posts that were coming from the pro-travel crowd. Things like: "I want to roam through the vast uncharted countryside on my dappled steed, and spy off in the distance the glint of a flowing waterfall. As I approach, I find a hidden cove that no other player had ever encountered. There I will lay out a blanket and have a picnic, and spend the rest of my life languishing naked by the pond while composing a ballad of the scene." Okay I made that up, but it's fucking close. Those people don't want a game, they want to dress up in a cape and cardboard sword and be transported to another world. Escapism freaks. Vanguard was developed in a warzone, with one side wanting a Fantasy World Simulator and the other wanting a Game. Neither won. Just adding the riftways increased the playability of the game a thousand times over. |

| I still play VG i have since launch, but fuck all that travel is immersion bullshit. VG is to damned big. I voted for having ports like in EQ though. I dont care for the riftways, but i do use them, but i just think the Ports there are better. Gives the community more to actually talk about. Game has came along ways, its just a shame it had to be released in the state it was. Its actually a pretty cool game. Oh well, it is what it is.

| vg is a great game imho, there was so much content to chose from, cept for the endgame. was definitely the most fun i ever had leveling up. i quit back then because of gf trouble, i wanted to get back into the game recently and explore the content i left out, but there was like noone left to play with... it would be my nr.1 choice mmorg if the servers weren't empty now. |

other thing that made me a disgruntled player was how awful the loot was in the game. there was no incentive to do any of the dungeons because the items coming out of them were complete crap.

If I had actually cared about VG by that point I think I would have been driven to drinking and opiates too.

+166 Internets | I do recall Jerrith I think PMing me once because I said combat was boring and asking me what I meant. Said it was because all the mobs hit for exactly the same damage in a given level range and have no special abilities or personality. A bee hit for the same damage a pirate hit for. 3 days later suddenly half the mobs in the game could stun when they hit you. Perhaps it was unrelated but I felt like someone had missed the point. |

The personality that was present also didn't always show that well. The mobs on Ceros Isle, for instance, had resists setup in three groups (each group had one melee and two magic resists). For each mob type, one group would deal normal damage, another group would deal reduced damage, and the third group would deal extra damage. In practice, while the effect was there, it wasn't obvious without a parser (even when looking for it, and one of the quests did explain it). Of course, setting mobs up to be something other than the default took time which was always in short supply. Three more quests, or special abilities for my mobs? Speaking of stun, the one thing I was glad didn't make it to release (that was tested) was a long stun (5 second-ish?) that almost always went off when you were hit from behind. It made running from battles almost impossible, and was very, very frustrating. ![]()
