Oh look Zehn:
Star Wars: The Old Republic Preview - G4tv.com

Quote:
Control-wise, Republic works much like other MMOs, with you using the “W," "A,” “S,” and “D” or arrow buttons to move, and the number keys to initiate attacks that correspond to the numbered icons along the bottom of the screen. Except that when you play as a Sith, as I did, doing simple melee attacks with your lightsaber builds up your Action Points, which you can use to do special attacks. So, for example, after attacking some guys a couple times with some quick jabs of the “1” key, I was able to stun everyone around me with a “5.” Or maybe a “4.” It happened kind of fast. All I know is everyone stopped hitting me long enough for me to slice ’em up.

Star Wars The Old Republic E3 Impressions: Ready to Play KOTOR 3 With a Few Thousand People? - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads

This review seems like the most informative.

Gives the most clear explanations.
The reviewers are all still comparing it to WoW. so perhaps the rumors are wrong, and it really is a true mmo. (Although reviewers to tend to get pulled into buzzwords as well.)

I like the mention of smugglers using a cover system. Now that would be interesting in an mmo.
No fucking stealth, but being able to take reduced damage behind cover.

I don't know if it was said before, but upon further inspection of the masks that the siths were wearing they look a lot like Darth Revan's. I'm very curious to see if they actually put him/her in the game, or perhaps the main sith is actually Revan returning with the true sith empire.

At the very least I would say Revan's look was used as a guide for the sith army. Pretty bad ass looking troops.

With that in mind you just know there are going to be some SERIOUS population imbalances in this game. Sith are going to be a fucking endless wave of Darthlulz and shit while the Jedi have to make do with half the numbers. Should be good times heh.

From the linked articles it does indeed sound like there will be parties from the get-go, harvesting, crafting, guilds, and raiding. I'm a little more optimistic about the MMO element.

Also interesting was the mention in the Shacknews article about how players will be able to see each others interactions during the dialog sequences. Cool.

Imagine that. Given how utterly speculative the rumors have been, it was funny to see the conversation abruptly shift from "maybe this doesn't fall within the traditional MMO genre" to more dramatic and hysterical certitude.

I'm not going to jump on the fanwagon for this yet, but I hope it's awesome and I'll definitely give it a chance. The feedback from the people who played it seems awfully positive.

I hope it does break the EQ mold a bit in terms of what sort of a MMO it is. While I could see playing out an epic space / land battle climax to a storyline as a multi-group encounter I really cant see having 24 Jedi all teaming together to defeat Darth Mumu riding a Rancor as an 'endgame' encounter.

Reading the review that talks about people's close range weapons with the Bounty Hunter having a wrist held flame thrower has me excited. This game has me quite excited.

think kotor, though. the "endgame" encounter, in that case, should really be the completion of the individual's storyline. the same one which began at creation, as the previews were hinting at. beyond that character's storyline, i'm sure there will be any number of lines to follow, and yes, some will probably involve darth mumu riding a rancor... for loots, of course.

What do you mean? The cinematic already had all jedi raid groups running around.

It'll be glorious.

Honestly WoW transmuted into KOTOR with story driven missions and group play instead of raiding would be an amazing game.

Another end-game question though is if they're so timid on PvP how they intend to give players meaningful effect on the ongoing war. I would love to see some frontier system with a few planets and big turf battles, even if its pve vs pve and not battleground style.

Here's praying for JTL2 as the first expansion pack though.

Well, there was that comment in the smuggler bit about a high end smuggler pvp outfit.

So I'm thinking WoW style. Which honestly, I preferred. Because I play the game for pve, but sometimes it's nice to just have breaks. As opposed to a full pvp game.
