They sent out their first community email. In it is a link to an interview with the developers and some cool shots of the game. Along with concept art and in game video.

Star Wars: The Old Republic | Developer Dispatch: The Making of Tython

I am not sold yet on the faces but the world design looks really good. The fighting animation looks amazing to me, well what we see of it.

Another Link is about art style and how they go about it, has more concept art and face design. As well as some clothing.

Star Wars: The Old Republic | Capturing the Look of STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™

Now they are under EA. So, things change. And I know that EA is trying to improve, and I want to give Bioware credit where it is due, but this isno longer the Bioware that you knew. Those games you talked about were what? 6+ years ago? Those people behind those are long gone, and the brand name is all that is left in it's place.

To me, looks like Star Wars meet WoW. Which is fine, because everyone is going to try and copy the model that works. Sounds like a decent story, but the original Bioware never had to come out with pre-press hype before the launch of their original titles.

Bioware was also never putting out games that were trying to fight against the 1000 Ton behemoths like WoW either.

With how few people put a lot of time into multiple MMOs now, they likely feel as though they have to get their name, ideas, etc out to as many people and create as much hype as possible to pull people away from games that they might not otherwise leave.

Perhaps Bioware is learning from past mistakes.

They have been one of the best development houses for some time, but they dont have the name branding Blizzard does. Mostly becuase they didn't promote themselves enough, and really brand the Bioware name.

Branding is HUGE.

Even recently they got torn up with the Dragonagerigins "countdown teaser" that only gave a title and said wait for more news later. This occured like 2 weeks after the Diablo 3 announcement.
People tore them apart for not showing gameplay, screens, footage, etc.

The promotion team kicking into high gear is only a good thing for Bioware products.

Similar. TR was a beautiful game, the gameplay was just repetitive and boring.

Haven't kept up with this game, or this thread...but does anyone know if they plan on using the retarded combat system from KOTOR? Honestly couldn't even get past the 30 minutes of the game because of the combat system.

Combat in KOTOR was about what you'd expect from an action-RPG. The only problem is how pointless it all was once you maxed one of two abilities and then just mashed it over and over again (and only got worse in kotor2, but KOTOR2 is like our crack-dealing uncle that we refuse to admit is actually part of the family and pray he doesn't show up to any family gatherings).

One would hope they don't make the same kind of balance mistakes. Because you know, one would hate for there to be an....imbalance in the force? GET IT?!

Ah you kids.
