Also looking at Warcraft itself the Europeon market isn't much smaller than the US one either, 2.5 million vs 2 million at the last numbers I can find. Given the popularity of Warhammer in Europe already, the initial numbers will probably be even closer that that. There will no doubt be a number of non-gamer Warhammer fans trying it out, God help us.

Please tell me that was intentional

While it's true that both Europe and Asia represent a larger market and will only continue to grow, we can't ignore the obvious cultural conquest of the last 60 years. Regardless of how much X, or Y claims to hate us, they'll continue to buy our culture and every facet of it: music, movies, gaming, you name it. The exceptions to this is necessity. You might be forced to drive a Smartcar, but it's the flash-car you see on TV that you really want. You might have to live in a flat, but you really want to be that rapper on TV with his 90 Ho's in the hottub.

That said, it should be obvious "why" we get it first. If Americans are unhappy with a product, the rest of the world won't be as inclined to buy it. We the American consumer are the the largest marketing firm in existence. This may quickly change as time goes on, but it hasn't yet. China will be the first nation to be catered to, but largely due to a vast cultural difference that doesn't translate as well as it does to the "Western" world. They're not as interested in the Big Mac's and rap, so instead you get Panda's and shit.

Yeah it was intentional to give a direct MMO comparison. Warhammer is very unlikely to get those numbers, but the ratio is worth noting.

ProTip: Warhammer is British, loosely based (like most modern high fantasy) on British literature.

If I wanted a flash car, I'd be buying German, Italian or Japanese. American motors are a bad joke.

No, not really. I'd rather be the British rockstar with his country pile.

EU's population is not even close to the 700 million mark afaik. In any case, I agree with your second statement, there are probably more gamers in Alabama than say in Bulgaria...

About 500 mil in the EU countries and over 700 mil in "Europe".
And Bulgaria's population is actually shrinking atm, and is at 7,5 mil.
Don't hold me to the numbers though, it's from wiki

As for EU WAR Beta...well, a beta isn't just for the game itself, but for the database servers for accounts and stuff as well. I'm sure they are happy it happened in open beta and not for release.
Actually alot of the UK preorders come with gauranteed Beta Access and Early Start, so yeah they do have to provide you with the service if its sold with a preorder.
