Gonna roll shadow warrior, I want to play a ranged dps class that isn't a caster and doesn't rely on a pet or turret of some sort. Although I'm quite afraid that it sounds like bright wizards make all the other ranged dps obsolete, so if shadow warriors turn out to suck I'll play an ironbreaker since pvp tanking sounds fun to me as well.

Shadow Warriors definitely don't suck. Ive seen some SW's do scary things. You need to be able to stance dance and kite well though.

Bright Wizard dps is awesome but a Shadow Warrior's dps can be as well. The BW is more flashy about it which is why you hear more about them. Bow shots just don't bring the "cool factor" like nuclear fireballs.

I believe SW have some great CC as well, so they bring something useful to the field other then just dps.

Good to hear. I play a warrior in wow so stance dancing is something im more than comfortable with. Incidentally one of my favorite alts is a hunter, which is why shadow warrior looks so interesting to me.

I'd say its pretty apparent which game's races look like "Simple Jack retards" and which show even a hint of menace. The images below don't even include WoW's horrifically designed Trolls; the inclusion of which would push WoW's "greenskin" aesthetic into a full-on Down Syndrome retard category.

I have always thought the WoW goblin model was pretty horrific. The orc isnt nearly as bad but I really don't think it is much of a contest. Far as green skins go WAR takes it. Elves on the other hand WAR needs their ass kicked for. High Elves are so god damn gay that even being in the same warband with them makes my butthole pucker. Dark Elves are not so bad if you can stand the emo.

Does anyone know if speccing assault on a shadow warrior as a secondary branch viable?

i was planning on going scout and then skirmisher with whatever points i have left but I don't want to be useless in close quarters

It was a toss up between sorc and BW, but since it looks like order is going to end us as the underdog, I imagine I'll end up as BW.

I don't know where you're getting that from. Perhaps you should try for a little "immersion" and realize that the way HE have "dresses" for armor is an interesting reflection on their culture. Now, not having chosen to be a homosexual freak in real life, I don't tend to play male characters in these games, but the way they look in WAR wouldn't stop me from playing one otherwise. The female HE characters look OK other than not having any reasonably decent faces to choose from.

The animations of both certainly need some refinement (like 95% of the other animations in WAR - Mythic's animation guy is definitely not very talented [they should put that very cool/smart/talented chick that designed the Tome of Knowledge on that after release, maybe]), but the armor, outfits, weapons, etc. generally look interesting and fun to play.

The fine folks at Games Workshop and Mythic have spent many years of effort creating interesting cultures for our soon-to-come enjoyment in this game, unlike many other recent MMORPGs which had no lore at all. I intend to take what we're given and immerse myself fully.

I'm still bummed I can't be a Trollslayer.

I'm going to check out the game with the Sep 7th open beta and see if it's fun, and not just the WOW/DAOC hybrid clone it seems to be.
