You could always play FreeRice , It's a pretty funny game for those who like odd and unusual words.

I can't speak for the rest of your box but having upgraded to an 8800 GTX from a 7900 GTX the 7900 is still no slouch, they out perform the 8600 series still.

Thanks for the specs/info on the older hardware. I will pre-order off of Amazon tonight.

Devil's advocate then: does pvp mostly revolve around just smacking the other dude? I haven't played, but I know there are knockback type effects, but no other type of CC? Seems like characters would have to be much "weaker" in terms of damage (or a lot better in terms of survivability) to get by with no CC. How does the overall tempo compare to WoW?

Getting feared sucks, but its a hell of a lot better than people just killing eachother within 5 seconds of getting in to range. That is the problem with WoW, each player is just way way too powerful to be unmolested for very long.

I think it's a function of level. At level 8 to 10, I had a bunch of abilities to use in combat. I was learning the ropes of the game so I was just getting used to the geography, the GCD etc so I never felt that particularly "weak".

There are debuffs and knockbacks that only become available to certain classes based on mastery specialization, so we would need folks with Closed Beta playtime to speak to the endgame PvP experience.

Knockbacks are a fun one but the most common is snare. I am not talking 70% snares like WoW retardation either. Most I have seen are around the 40% mark. Slow enough that its not hard to chase you but you are not crawling either. It is possible to die quickly if you get focus fired on (as it should be) but you will not be getting 1-2 shotted left and right. Combat pace is quick, but killing is slower then WoW in general. At no point do you ever really lose control of your character which is too awesome for words.

I honestly could never return to WoW pvp after my WAR experience. Getting chained feared, stuned, sheeped and hamstring all within 10 seconds would drive me to punch a baby. In WAR you fight non stop and it is the tactic/skill of you and your allies that win. Not who gets CC off first.

There's snares, roots, silences, disarms(even ranged spell versions) knockdowns and knockbacks. Each of these CCs give you a immunity afterwards(forget exact time, something like 10s) so you cant be chain CC'd till Death. The only one to this exception is knockbacks i think which are hilarious to use to punt people off cliffs, hilltops or back into your factions line to get demolished.

In terms of tempo I'd compare it to pvp with resilience of equal amount. And there is a form of resilience kinda, initiative(which reduces chance of crits against you, no dmg though). Fights are generally short on casters , unless healed, but obviously not as well against a tank in heavy armor. Resist play a huge part as they mitigate damage of spells, but have no effect on "total" resist. "Total resist" are call disrupts, and you can get actual + disrupt stats and Willpower Increases disrupt chance(This is where healers are a pita, by default they have a high disrupt).

Also a few classes have healing debuffs, ranging from 25% all the way up to 100% , which should make it alot easier focusing a target.

Also Spells can be blocked shields, making those tanks even more absorbant. Along with a use of guard(splits damage between the guarded target and the tank) and other abilities(such as Hold the Line, which gives allies behind you a 45% increase in disrupt chance and dodge/parry), you can make the tempo even more slow for the other side, without heals.

I'm mostly speaking in terms of a grp roaming around, doing hit and runs. If your in the zerg vs zerg back and forth, its just like TM/SS but with a purpose(a keep behind you they want to take over, and secondary objectives).

Random question. Does anyone know the max level for tradeskills? Working on a guild site and for what ever reason that is a question heh.

Actually I was browsing my local Target a few days before preview weekend and saw some WAR Open Beta Access DVD case with a few free in-game items and a $5.00 off coupon of WAR offered for only $1.00. I said what the hell and bought it. I hopped on the mythic site that night, signed up for an account, popped in the key, and left it at that. A day or two later I saw all the buzz on the FoH site about some preview weekend announced, checked the account page, and I was in. I still haven't preordered the game, but I got into the preview weekend and open beta from it.

What is WAR's UI like? Is it anything like WoW's fantastic and extremely customizable LUA-based UI? Modifying WoW's UI was practically a metagame for me and tinkering with addons was often more fun than raiding.

Well I was only able to see T2 level play so I don't know how top level pvp will play out. There were only 1-2 classes with knockback effects and I think out of all the scenarios I played I was only knockedback twice. Didn't encounter any fears or any type of "loss of control of character" that you can experience in WoW.

WoW PvP, if you don't have a trinket or cooldown up, it's possible for you to get jacked before you even have a chance to respond. In WAR, that's never happened to me yet. Even if I have 4 guys railing me in the ass I can still get off my abilities that might let me survive (Morale Shield Block or Hold the Line, even my +25 parry ability).

That's the thing I hate about WoW. In world PVP a rogue or lock could get the drop on me and I wouldn't be able to do shit because I'm not in my PVP gear at the time and didn't have my trinkets equipped.

But yeah, from the limited play I got from the preview, I've yet to experience a total loss of my character like I have in WoW.
