oh yes. soloing a defiler is likely to cause emo-ness.

Hmm, I will speak about the raid side of the game, as it is a little different than grouping.

Fighters :

Guardian : best raid MT. Sucks in some 80 instance (like Guk3). They keep the mob (single) on them and take the hits. Nobody got as many trick to stay alive as a guardian.

SK : Can roll one, they are now very good. Of course, yesterday on AB 8 level 80 SK were lfg when i looked (at something like 1PM EST). I have an SK alt, and it is so fun to play I fear a nerf because sometimes it seems like SoE doesn't like fun classes hah. Best OT imo (with may be zerk).
They do all the weird things SKs do (AoEs, tap life, DS; AoE snap aggro with deathmarch...).

Paly : Might be fun to some but, ultimately, they are worthless. Too slow cast of not big enough heals, and with amend soon gone...

Zerk : Same, never saw a main, as they all betrayed to guardian in Kunark.

Monk and bruiser : LOL . Bruiser is you want a solo god but need good gear for that...

Priests :

Templar : one of the SoE love child. Best buffs, big heals + reactive and now ward and regen, while keeping shield ally (avoid hit for the tank) and stoneskin. A templar AFK will heal more than anybody else, but it doesn't show easily on parse so they think they can still ask for more (and they always get it). You WANT a templar in your raid MT group.
For TSO, if you are not an avatar geared guild, 4 templars is a good number for a raid (along with 4 mystics). Yeah, I think too it is pushing it, but some guilds dream of that.

Inquisitor : Good healer but far under the sister class. Good buffs for DPS if they are not maxed in everything. The mythical they had was crap, then got revamped and is really now godly for a healer (clicky group cure everything, with a heal attached to everything it cure. EQ2 is a very detrimental effect driven mmo). If one day you meet a very very good player on an inquisitor, you will see someone that can heal, cure, tank, DPS at the same time. But it is very rare.

Mystic : Great buffs, great debuffs, the power of wards (runes), great mythical, can have good DPS.

Defiler : Used to be like the best MT healer, but now mystic seems to be better in everything. Saving grace is that guilds are used to have one in MT group (many switched to mystic but still some use a defiler there, like mine).
They still are good healers with good debuffs, they just have their (very very few) tricks given to others healers in a better form, get very bad itemization, a level 80 class signature spell extremely shitty and too many AAs are designed to enhance this spell that will stay ridiculous no matter what.

I won't speak about it anymore because it angry me and I am on the verge of quitting EQ2 because of that, I hate to play a totally forgotten class.

Warden and fury : While they must be fun to play and are good for grouping, having no good buffs to speak of and seeing how regen works, they are more than lacking in raid. They need lot of help. Furies are dime a dozen.

Scouts :

Brigand : Good DPS, debuffs so great that no raid want to go without at least one. Bad aggro. Can spec for tanking for grouping.

Swash : Good DPS, debuffs, have aggro transfer but it seems it is soon gone leading to what can be somewhat of an identity crisis. Can spec for tanking for grouping.

Assassin : DPS god. Will never be a bad class as it is the class played by the class designer. You will top the DPS parse. You will have high repair bills.

Ranger : Great DPS too, awesome soloer when enough space to kit.

Dirge : Great melees buffs (mostly), stoneskin, rez, aggro tricks, heal buffs. Okish DPS when high-end. Always in demand. Their power regen is totally outdated (as troubador). 3 is a god number of dirges to have in a raid.

Troubador : Great casters buffs (mostly), some general buffs, a mez and few tricks. Rare class but always welcome. Melees dominate EQ2 right now so dirges are preferred though.

Casters :

Necro : Sucks.

Conjuror : Sucks.

These are the 2 true gimps of EQ2, now that SKs got a revamp. And still, we have necros applying to our guild every week because everybody play this class. No, we have more than 0 necro so we have already too many you can go away.

Wizard : Good DPS, but under assassin, with even lower survivability, and no real aggro transfer. I "think" they are more relaxing to play compared to others classes (if you don't mind repair bills).

Warlock : Good DPS, Thrive in TSO with all the multi mobs encounters. I find them fun. You will not find many AoE encounters in raids. Very easy to die as a warlock.

Illusionist : The third SoE love child (with templar and assassin). Great DPS, great CC, awesome buffs, power regen, they got it all and every raid want at least 3 of them. Great solo too.

Coercer : Great DPS, great CC, melees buff, unrivaled power regen, aggro transfer for the MT, best soloer ever with charm burn and all the stuns. Coercive healing will make you loved by healers, got also some good debuffs. A raid without a mythicaled coercer in MT group is not a real raid.

Now keep in mind that a good player is a good player. A good necro will be more useful than a (very very) bad assassin. Of course, a good fury will never replace a bad templar played by a retarded drunk paraplegic LD monkey in the MT group but you can be useful in the casters' group, and you need more than the best monk ever to replace a plate tank (with similar gear).

Did summoners get nerfed? Last time I played they were doing more than sorcerers in raids.

I think it's more of an issue of pets never scaling as much with gear. It seems to me like they slap a little + pet spell damage/ combat art/ hp on gear for summoners, where a sorc or enchanter would just get more to their main casting. and due to the multiplicative nature of a lot of class abilities or gear combinations...it just doesn't add up as well.

This is true, but Sorcs have always been doing as much as Summoners, but they offer better buffs as time went by along with gear increasing Sorc DPS far more than Summoner DPS.

Plus their utility has waned in power. shards and hearts don't seem as good as they did (increasing mana pools? ). CoTH isn't as needed with tinkering able to get you to a raid. and a few other issues i'm sure i'm forgetting.

and all the classes have really cool tricks and powers and power combinations that aren't as apparent if you don't play the class. The incremental character growth and customization in eq2 leads to some pretty awesome choices/abilities. So...I guess I'm saying they're all good for something....You may just get hamstrung by community perception, or find that you aren't where you thought you would be by the end game.

Damn you guys for making want to re-sub. Although if i do it will definitely be to re-roll as a coercer, always thought that class was badass.

Jesus you guys, fuckers.

Now I want to re-sub.

The only questions in my head still:
Inquis or Mystic?
AB or Nagafen?

I shall mull them over while I pretend to actually do work.

Both servers was listed as heavily populated last night, so there's lots of people playing Nagafen too. So it only depends on if you want PvP or not-_-

class dunno, melee specced inquisitor can be fun @ pvp

Delving a little more into Kunark has been a fun experience with my Ranger although I havent gotten as much time to play as I would have liked. I've yet to join a guild on AB but it sounds like I need to start looking ASAP as Guild Halls sound like serious awesomeness, and I'm not going to want to solo forever.

And yeah people keep re-subbing to EQ2 because they (the devs) keep revamping content to make it better and/or more interesting than it was before. It's a great idea and the main reason I keep going back every time I get the MMO itch.

My 2 cents on the class thing: (and I've said it before) My EQ2 Fae Ranger is my favorite MMO race/class combo ever. While light on group utility you have great run speed through AA's and Pathfinding, Glide/Safe Fall innately through race, Stealth, Tracking and HUGE damage potential from 5m on out. I'm still using Raincaller for my bow when soloing at 70 (it's a level 57 item, although it is Fabled) and with smart use of my buffs its rare if an even con mob lasts 10 seconds. Rangers in EQ2 are what I wish Hunters were in WoW and the benchmark for bow-using DPS classes in an MMO. All my opinion of course.
