This solves my major problem with the game, that being I was basically running around with a combat pet that did 99.6 percent of the work once engaged in combat. The twink gear is perfect...it's enough to get you started with the merc, and very easy to replace. I already upgraded two pieces of gear from Crystal caverns.

dont forget there are cons to the test server as well. i played on test for about 5-6 months earlier this year. its fun if you just wanna get back in eq and dick around. if you have grand ideas of progressing a character i would advise against it.

You're correct, but it is a little ludicrous to think that far in advance for your characters. I imagine most people are like me, in that they'd love to get involved on a short stint back into memory lane but EQ makes that as difficult as possible. If you aren't twinked, you are fucked and this goes double if you're a melee due to the increased mob strength done a while back. Merc + jump start on test + increased exp + free expansions+ no challenge on your preferred content is a pretty sweet deal.

And what's the drawback if you want to continue playing? Leveling on test in a hotzone is dumb as shit. I was getting an entire yellow bubble per kill in a hotzone at 26 fighting yellows. I bet you could get 60 in a handful of play sessions, or a long weekend, once you're set up. If you decide the game is worthwhile, go ahead and roll on a regular server. No big loss, aside from getting used to the game once again and figuring out a few tricks to make cash maybe. If I didn't find test I would have quit. Now? Not so much.

They also value having people around so it's a MMO instead of a single player experience.

A) If you are playing EQ1 your time is worthless.

B) That was just a perk I mentioned. I made the post for people who, like myself, aren't enticed with the concept of playing 'Run around trying not to die while your merc plays the game for you.' Test boosts your character up and gives you basic gear, and lets you actually play the game. It's a perfect starting point for someone who wants to tear through old content on his own accord. Follow that short little guide of mine and you are in decent shape to play the game.

C) No, really, you level so quick it's disgusting...I gained a half level laying feign deathed in crystal caverns while my merc killed 5 mobs. I gained 5 levels in 30 minutes. You aren't wasting months. You are wasting a few good sessions.

In case anyone is interested...I'm real low on cash atm and willing to sell an 80 enchanter w/ 626aa on the combine. He's in full guk gear, every other piece is decently auged, and he has a couple SoF pieces of group gear. Has around 13-14k mana pool and most worthy spells are rk2. PM for detailz -- there's no magelo though, when my accounts ran out I didn't think to make one (eqplayers profile won't update for some reason also)

I disagree with this. I bought SoD on a new account (to get the free 30 days) no twinking, no anything, I had no problems at all.
