| So, I resubbed and bought the xpac will all the cookies included a few weeks back. Long story, short, it's the worst 60$ I've ever spent on anything. I played this game for about 5 years, from Kunark onward. Quit near GoD/OoW. Had (have) full PoTime gear on my SK, that's not the problem really. I don't know where the fuck to go. I don't know what the fuck to do. And the movement controls / camera suck balls and there's no way to fix it. I tried a shaman, got him to 15 or so, and realized there's really nothing in the way of a good quest system in this game (or at least, at low levels). Am I missing something? It's not appealing to me to grind to level 80 (or 85, or whatever it is now). The merc is great, I have to admit. But the game is terrible. Please tell me I'm missing something. I can't play in 3rd person, really, and most the camera angles suck nuts. Granted, I'm playing solo, and my account is based on Zek (used to play on RZ back in the day). Is this the problem? The nostalgia was great for a few days, and then it just got old because I can't get used to the movement again. I convinced my brother (70 Cleric) to resub with me and try it out when I did. We, not having any clue about any of the zones past GoD, decided to try out the zone that we knew that had the best xp: PoFire. It took us ~6 minutes to kill one of the doomfire guards for 1.2% exp. Is this what levelling is in EQ1, now? By the same math I could be level 85 and enjoying the "uberleet lores" of the new expansion in roughly two months. Any help would be appreciated, because I would love to not have to write off this 60$ as (aforementioned) the worst money I've ever spent in my life (that included that bad joint I bought in gr 12.). EDIT: One of the other problems I found is that there's 200 features past GoD that there's no place to read up on. What the fuck are Spirit Shards? Or Monster Missions? Or the 6 different versions of currency available? There's no way to figure this shit out. I'm more lost on my SK soloing because I don't know where to go. I don't even know how to get to any of the expansions I bought! Does soloing not exist at my level? Or will it take (like previously mentioned) 2 years to do it? Maybe I'm used to being babied, I will admit that freely, by WAR and EQ2. Please, I would love to love this game, I just don't know how the fuck. Last edited by Grozmok; 11-28-2008 at 02:12 AM.. |

You can experiment with what's better, you tanking with skinspike pots and tank mercs dpsing, or mercs tanking and you dpsing. Make sure you pop Lesson of the Devoted every day if you have it.

+1 Internets | Grozmok, I hear ya. I started a new account before I resubbed an old one to get a feel for the game again. It was fun relvling the new character and to learn about all the changes to the game but given I had played it for so many yrs, it was not entirely new. After a month I resubbed my old account and now everything is not as overwhelming. However, I have to admit most of the people lfg are at the very end game. Really, anything over your lvl and into new expansions requires you to group with someone who knows shit and or join a guild. As for sites, I find myself using Lucy a lot for spells and such, the Safehouse for my rogue info and Allakhazam's is still very useful. However, there is still a lot of stuff that is new to me, tons and it is overwhelming but some of it is actually pretty cool when you try it out. | ok here are the suggestions i can give you: 1) go to Mapfiend.net :: Your one stop shop for Everquest Maps! and download all the maps. If you dont know how to get somewhere, open the map window, click on Atlas. you can see all the zone connections there (of course you need to know at least in which expansion the zone is) 2) go to EQInterface and modify your UI if you dont like it 3) check the list of Hotzones (LINK) and see the most appropriate for you. Hotzones are the best place to check to find ppl of your own level and to speed up the whole process. These zone outexp PoFire by a lot ![]() 3.5) in PoK, near Guildlobby entrance, there is an NPC called Franklin Teek(Hot Zones). He gives you tasks for augments you do in the various Hotzones. Nothing major but they can help 4) as someone already said, check bazaar and buy defiant equip and for potions. Potions are your friends 5) write /claim and /veteran to get your rewards. Important are the Veteran AAs. They are special AAs you get if your account is old enought. The first one is Lesson of the Devoted. it gives your 30 mins of double exp every 20 hours. Keep in mind these are 1 character per account only (or maybe 1per server). so dont give them to your alt 6) LFG tool is your friend. write /lfg and check for more. i dont think you will find much under lv 70, but there is always ppl levelling their alts. 7) find a guild. maybe join one of the ppl from this board. it will greatly helps you. expecially thanks to the guildportal that can drastically reduce travel time Quote:
the various currency are expansion only currency you aquire doing tasks to buy particuar vendor stuff. unless you plant to do them, ignore them Spirit Shroud was a badly done attempt to let higher level player join and fight with lower levels. Basically, you get transformed in a monster (you can chose your level) with various characteristics so you can fight along your low level friend. It is now useless cause the levelling is so fast you can reach lv55 (minimum level necessary to exp with a lv85 if im not wrong) in very short time Monster Missions are istanced missions you do impersonating a monster. They have been for a time an alternative and very funny way of exping but no one do them anymore (they abandoned the concept 4 expansions ago) i will list here the various entrance zones for the various expansions after Omens of War. check the Zone links in the Atlas to have a general idea of them: Dragons of Norrath: you enter The Broodslands from Lavastorm Mountains Deeps of Darkhollow: you enter Coratus Creep from Nektulos forest. at the end of the river there is a passage to enter this underground area. you can teleport to Undershores from Guildhall Prophecy of Ro: the expansion is divided in 3 themes (Plane of Magic, Plane of Rage and old Takishis). - You enter Plane of Magic from Freeport West, at the top of the caster guild there is a portal. - You enter Plane of Rage from Freeport East past the arena click a statue that rappresent Sullon Zek. - You enter old Takish from Oasis The Serpentspine Mountains: best way to get there is to use the PoK book to Crescent Reach (Drakkin home city). you can enter it from Highpass Hold but i never bothered to pass there. Keep this expansion in mind. it was last SoE attempt to make content for lower level. its a progression expansion done to make you level. there are a tons of tasks every zone The Buried Sea: you enter it from Toxxulia Forest, or guildportal to Katta Castrum (this is a lv70+ only expansion) Secret of Faydwer: Steamfont Mountains is the access zone for both Dragonscale Mountains and Loping Plains (the exp is divided in 2 "wings"). This is a lv70+ expansion) Seeds of Destruction: you access this expansion from Plane of Time (to get there, use the old way, or use the guildportal, or talk with Herald of Druzzil in PoK). this is a lv75+ only expansion 9) last suggestion, use these 3 sites if you need infos Allakhazam.com: Everquest (they have guides for every expansion. some good, some bad) The Spirit Realm • Index page (shaman mainly board, but lot of infos on every expansion) Guides of Everquest, maintained by Rasper Helpdesk other than these suggestions, well it depends on you. I will be honest with you, the EQ you knew during GoD era is no more. very little is left of it. the game is huge now, more than 200 zones, and most of it is unusued/outdated. it's natural you feel lost. but if you play with a learning attitude and find a good guild/good group of ppl to play with EQ now gives you much much more content than any other mmorpg out there EDIT for some spelling error and modify to "suggestion number 5" Last edited by fucker; 11-28-2008 at 12:03 PM..

+6 Internets | rang rang Anyway, just play first person, EQ works best that way. If you just can't stand it, try zooming out with mousewheel from first person, it's the most intuitive camera if you're used to newer games. Stuck behind your character, though. |
