I honestly didn't really know of any myself, outside of the training to cause massive wars...

But yeah, with EQ1 dead to so many, lets post a lot of exploits from the past


As well as any rumors from back in the day as well, those are always good reads.

I heard that there was just a quest where you gave some dude a biscuit or some thing, you would get money and tons of exp and it was repeatable. Rumor was that some dev put this in for his enjoyment when he played.

That's an easy one. It had to do with something in the zone, and was very real. It just exchanged coin:ratio improperly. The same bug has existed in other games as well.

Three of us from Conquest discovered that the Priest of Discord didn't aggro pets, only their owners. We got the first loots from the PoD, and a GM even came to our raid later in the Plane of Fear to ask me how it was done. Got a Staff of Discord which morphed into a Combine Mace upon zoning. So my Magician had a weapon he couldn't equip (but I could use it) until he died. Also a Robe of Discord, and something else. First ones game wide.

There was a Sphinx in Rathe Mts that folks would exploit by killing his chanter pet for quick xp.

The Kracken was real.

So was the Befallen "Anti-Camp" code. It was removed shortly after release.

Lots of others, but just that off the top of my head.


edit: Personal favorite is probably the Guide that bound all those people in VP. I loved that story. Maybe Kendrick or someone will stop by and tell us a few truly obscure ones

The bank in freeport had a vault behind it that a rogue could lockpick and on the floor of the vault was a ton of gold etc that could not be picked up. Often I would go and open the door and people would run in there and the door would close behind them, locking them in.

...ah it's good to be a rogue and better yet a rogue that's an ass.

millions of other sploits and such but that was one of the many I had fun with

You could exploit the Western Wastes dragons with a combination of charm/memory blur get them to fight each other and kill them off at low hp for the loots. We did that shit for a while and got loaded up on spells/talismans.

The still existing illusion through doors is a great one... just run into a door illusion and click it off and it will eventually clip you through most doors.

edit: Forgot about the Paineel zone and an actual mob named "Pain and Suffering" that you could get to via levitation trick. It hit for 1-2 and crit for 3, had 32khp. Killed it a few times :P

The big rumor I remember was involving Unrest and all the keys that dropped. Everyone thought there was a secret sub-basement, and you needed all the keys to access it.

I also remember people having theories about the 2nd floor in Hate. This was before they actually utilized it...I remember spending time in wolf form (before they made it so wolf form aggro'd in POH) just trying to find a secret way upstairs.

The other great exploit was the pet=unlock any door exploit. sic pet on mob behind door, pet poofs, mob unlocks door to get you, you jump in. We used to do that all the time in Najena.

I heard of tons, growing up on Veeshan was the shit-- FoH, CD, CoE all of the top guilds just made everyone on the server that much better oh what fun.

Only sploit I can remeber doing other than leveling daggers up in ToV invs fire pot guy was fearing dorfs into the BB mnts dock wall grinding out some hell level...45? or 35 I forgot...I leveled soo damn slow lol...training etc AFK folks was always fun, deff AFK furor...50% of the time I would see him (not just the corps is in every zone) he would be afk...usualy with a crowd around him...most wars inspecing him to find out what loots they should go for.

Few of my friends discovered the Akanon bug, that was a good leveler- deff for bards. Pull mob- run to corner of some room, mob stands in doorway- sing aoe dmg, enjoy

Does the SG camp in corner to safe spot yourself across count? used that mofo tons of times.

Rumors...some old church guy was in beta and told me the main quest point of EQ was to find some undead like lich king or so in everfrost, that he caused all sorts of bad mojo..when I first got into the game I searcherd all around seeking lore for it- there was some but nothing came to frutition- for years I thought he wall full of BS...then lo and behold lol it was there! beta was crazys

Those were some good ones. Fleeing mobs would open doors too. Wolves made you non-aggro in Mistmoore too.

I kind of remember something about a secret area of Hate. There was an extra zone file called Innoruuks Throne or something?

FOH was able to Kill Lord Yelinak because he would not regen hit points very fast. You could attack him get him down to half life, drag and rez and repeat until you killed him.

Furor was too pussy to turn in the head for fear of a broken quest so we did it and received the first GoDS.

I remember finding out one exploit as a Magician.

I guess based on the coding, if you killed your Eye of Zomm, the game thought you lost your pet. So if you summoned and killed an Eye of Zomm, you could summon another Mage pet.

I remember summoning about 20 Air elementals and ran around with an invisible rape train. Wish I still had the screenshots.

I eventually bet a higher level character 50pp (was a lot back then) that I could beat him in a duel. Soon as he attacked me he got gang raped. The guy actually payed me even though it was an obvious exploit .

This was standard fair for Bards in cazic thule back in the day.

Okay one last one from me, because I've never ever had this answered clearly. I've asked a shitload of people about this, and none were involved so they didn't know...

There was a Designer who I talked to frequently who swore that the original plan for Veeshan's Peak involved a portal in Phara Dar's room that took you to the Plane of Sky "Veeshan's Wing". There you were to receive your epic quest. When you finished, you'd have to fight through VP again and return. Thing is, 99% of what this GM told me about other things were true. But I've never found out if this was in the original design or not.

I found lots more sploits on my necro than my rogue. Of course there was the plane of tactics pit and getting mobs to fight one another by using charm/fd. Crypt of decay on release was sick.

In charisis you could dmf and run/float down on top of a throne and attack mobs that could not attack you back. Was a named or two there...I forget exactly what it was I was after.

so many sploits as a necro...was scary

What about when you used to be able to give mobs weapons to prevent rival guilds from going after them...Dain

The Plane of Tactics exploit was probably the most fun I had in Everquest - from Vanilla up until GoD. God it was so awesome.
