Sony's purchase of Vanguard would support this!

And yet the tradition of having to radically alter every raid in the game over and over again post release continues!

I came back to OoW and while it was fun, the whole instancing thing turned me away.. and I went to WoW. Ironic? Who knows.

OoW was promising though, I liked some of the battles and it seemed to improve as far as raid content. Mobs hit like fucking trucks though, jesus.
istancing turned you away...in OoW? OoW had 1 istance in the entire expansion...Anguish

maybe your guild was raiding GoD and were talking about that?

but anyway....

guys, seriously, i dont like to start a verbal (writing) fight but, seriously....shut the fuck up when you talk about Everquest

most of you quitted Everquest for good reasons, everyone agree about this. Hell i would have quitted it too if i had experienced the torture that Rathe and Uqua1.0 have been. But that's it

continue to bash Everquest like the game never changed from GoD1.0 its pretty much stupid

you dont know the game, you never played it since 2003, and even if you returned you found yourself in a game different (for good reasons) from the one you remember and left again crying how SoE raped "the old good EQ".

please....

GoD has been Everquest's botton, nobody deny it, but after that it has been a continue improving and evolving, with every expansion providing plenty of raiding and group/casual content

I think that is the point. EQ had to basically revamp most of what made it EQ in order to keep subscribers. EQ isn't dead but it is indeed a shadow of what it once was, but that is to be expected. It broke into the genre, and practically stays afloat by ripping stuff off from other games. There have been few, if any new subscribers. The player base has dwindled down from a thriving community to having to merge servers just to keep the population thick.

Were it any other game, as soon as people threw out certain things everyone would be raving that the game was dying a slow death. But because it's EQ, people are defending it like it was their first lay and won't hear any ill of it.

EQ was great, at the time. Now it is dated, and most of the new shit is mechanics from other games that are now practically required in MMOs.

The thread was about experiencing all the great times one had because sorry, but EQ's peak is over.

How many of those 200k are boxed alts hmmm? Nobody plays EQ anymore without multiple accounts, because it just isnt feasible unless you're either at the top end already or simply roleplay. For every person who cancels now I'm sure there is one person making a new boxed alt, which doesn't help the population problem out one bit.

I do. I don't have the patience for boxing anymore. It's one of those things that I didn't mind before but I just can't be bothered to do it now.

I play casually with RL friends and am having a fine time. I miss a lot of my older friends and the raiding crew from years back, but the game itself is still plenty of fun.

The problems with Everquest are many, and it would take like a 10,000 word essay to really sum up where it stands right now. Which nobody wants. So in this regard I will say the game is good enough that it keeps me playing (and boxing).

My only issue is the fact that the game is and always has been a cash cow, bare minimal effort by the managers of this company has been put into this product. No desire to create a better product (imo) has ever been undertaken at a management level. And I strongly doubt any solid, serious attempt at correcting internal processess has ever been pushed by management either.

I understand, at the end of the day, any MMORPG producer is a business and well you got to make money. But Everquest to me is a case of how little can we do, or what can we do cheaper (not better) to maximise profits. Instead of how can we make this product more appealing.

Ignoring the multiple single-group instances, there were those Muramite Proving Grounds trials. Those were raid instances.

Who had "I predict this thread will turn into an EQ vs WoW debate before page 40" in the office pool?

As long as people still play, I guess the game isn't dead. But we can keep arguing about that for 40 more pages if you want...

That's a crock of shit. I'd say 10-20 people in my guild have any accounts they personally own outside of their own primary account, in a roster of 70. I'd say maybe 6 of them box multiple alts, out of that. Yeah, there's a lot of boxing, but mostly it's people PLAYING EACH OTHER'S CHARACTERS.
