I've gotten -1 internets for all kinds of dumb things. Worst was for bumping a thread with a legitimate reply. Apparently someone thought the thread should only be bumped for some sort of groundbreaking, earth-shattering update of some kind. *Shrug*

I'm planning on going to Blizzcon for the first time this year and have no idea what that area is like, what hotels to check for, etc. I figured a thread with general info would be nice for those of us going.

My questions :
- What's the closest airport? LAX?
- Any recommendations for hotels? Something cheaper that also isn't a rat hole would be nice
- What are the "Must-see's" in the area?
- Similarly, what are the "Must-avoids?"
- Is it worth it to rent a car or just catch taxis?

Also, didn't several posters go in together last year to save money on rooms and what-not? If so, how did that go?

- Definately want to fly in to SNA (John Wayne)
- There's about 50 hotels on Harbor Blvd (main road that everything is connected to, Disneyland, convention center, etc), so take your pick.
- If you stay here in OC, I'd say the must-see would be any of the south county beaches starting with Balboa Pier and going south into Dana Point. For sure hit an In & Out, it's not overrated. If you're into the bar scene, hit up Main Street in Huntington Beach (my hometown) or any of the bars in Newport Beach along the Balboa Peninsula.
- Avoid leaving the OC. LA is shit, I don't care how cool they make Hollywood look on TV, it's complete ass.
- Rent a car for sure.

I'll be going this year again (been to both, loved both). If you need something to do before/after and aren't a fucking weirdo, I'm sure you could party with us, the more the merrier (usually).

Also, anyone needing help in the OC area feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to help out.

As for stuff to do.. Madruk's right, Balboa Pier is amazing, there's some great restaurants along there and it's just really nice.

Also definitely check out Laguna Beach.. It's sort of yuppie but it's got the quaint beach town feel down to a T..

We should definitely try and plan a board get together though.. Would be down to party with you guys :P

I'll be going for one of the days. I'm driving from San Diego though, not getting a hotel.

I suggest costume, dance and voice contests as the day to come. If you've never been to a BlizzCon, this is certainly a big highlight!

Cuppycake...

You embarrass me as a San Diego native

Why drive when you can take the Amtrak, and get your drink on

Anyone know if blizzard just mails you your tickets are or you required to show some kind of ID to verify your the one who bought the tickets?
You are required to present the credit card you purchased the tickets with at the entrance to the event, no earlier than the evening before.

If you want to sell the tickets on ebay, you'll basically have to be in SoCal to get them the night before the event in order to do so.... and so will your buyer. Oh, and they'll be walking around the event with your name on the tag.

Edit: Not that I'm against scalping -- I just wish people would stop automatically assuming that it'll be possible. If its anything like last year (and why not), it'll be an absolute pain to coordinate scalping tickets unless you already live in the area and/or are willing to meet up with people at the actual event. Last thing we need is a bunch of tards buying 10+ tickets thinking it'll be possible ... then "whoops" ... and there will be just that many fewer tickets available for the people that really want to road trip there.

WTB Blizzcon in the midwest. Gas is getting too damn expensive for the East Coasters and Mid Westerners to travel to Cali. I would like to suggest Chicago or Kansas City. Not to mention that food and lodging is craptons cheaper in the midwest.

What does planning for it have to do with price? Did they stockpile a few hundred gallons of gas back when it was around $2 a gallon?

Oh noes, an e-thug on the loose.

Hey Einstein, whether you "plan" or not doesn't change the fact that gas is expensive, period.

I agree with Clug thats exactly what I thought, can plan for it all you want it doesn't make it any cheaper.
