+1 Internets | New MMORPG from the creator of the Might and Magic series Not sure how many folks remember the name Jon Van Caneghem; he was the founder of New World Computing (later bought by 3DO) and the creator of the Might and Magic series which was introduced in 1986. Personally, I was a huge fan of the series and remember playing MM3 back in high school in 1991 (didn't play the first two). After joining NCSoft very briefly, he went on to found a company called Trion and they have announced their first project: Trion World Network, Inc., Broadband Games Publisher: News Not much concrete info yet but I mention it because I consider this guy one of the godfathers of CRPGs along with names such as Richard Garriott, Michael Cranford (Bard's Tale), etc.

I've spent more time playing heroes of might and magic 3 then any other non-MMO so here's hoping. If anybody can design fun repetitive gameplay it should be this guy.

| If there's anyone that doesn't know that name, gtfo. Seriously, gtfo. Might and Magic 2 was the greatest CRPG ever released to that date. It was metric fuckyears beyond Ultima 3, Wizardry 2, etc... And King's Bounty (later HoMM) owns all your +internets, that's one dev I wouldn't mind see posting here. PS: Might and Magic 2 had Epic Quests for each class in 1988. Read that again. At that time I was pretty busy with the Bard's Tale and Ultima series.

| Wizardry was definitely hard as well. Ultima was my favorite CRPG series, but the difficulty was never quite there along side Wizardry and M&M which were hard as fuck until later in the series. The one thing totally gone from CRPGs is the amount of fucking paper you needed to finish a game. Writing down all those x,y coords, names, items, etc... I don't miss that, but it's a testament to how hard they were. I still have my Ultima V notes, because they were taken down directly in the manual (shrines, mantras, un-mantras, loc's) I wish I had saved the rest from other games just for geekdom sake. |

| From the press release it looks like SOE will be the publisher for the product. Queue SOE bashing in 3...2... * * * I'm part of the minority that thinks HoMM2 >> all other HoMMs. Always a plus when HoMM2 music shows up on South Park. Planescape:Torment remains the single greatest CRPG released on the PC followed closely (and for different reasons) by Ultima 7. Edit: Wizardry (the first and second) I remember fairly well as they were the first CRPGS I ever played on a computer but though I know I played M&M (at least the first one) I don't remember it all. I do remember U3:Exodus -- that was amazing for its time. My brother filled the entire landmass with treasure chests ;-)

I played MM1 and then really got into MM3, which was one of the best CRPGs from that Golden Age of yore. I think MM5 was the other one I really liked. Based on his track record, this MMO he's working on is definitely worth some attention.

And I must be way behind the times, but which ep did South Park use HoMM2 music? I missed it. The other great thing about the HoMM's through 3 is it really explained and expanded on the whole meta-story of Might and Magic. Really good story in retrospect.

All I saw was:"The game represents the initial first-party title on the Trion Platform, and will be published by Trion in both North America and Europe."

One of my favorite games ever. I spent an entire summer between a swimming pool, this game, and Ultima V. Long live the EA staff and their nerf-guns! (You get to fight them in the game as a Easter Egg) Fixed your img
