| So, got Kunark for my Birthday (yay a year late omgyes) as a way for my sis to lure me back into the class. Definately going to either play a sarnak, or atleast start in kunark if I can. So far I'm thinking about Inquisitor, SK, Mystic, and Warden. Could anybody give a breakdown in where they stand? Mostly solo/duo play, very little raiding. At most I'll be playing in a group commonly. So yeah, definately interested in trophy soloing, if anybody could incluide that aspect as well?

| Fury/Warden are the "best" healer soloers, and the new Sarnak newbie area (Timorous Deep) is so fucking broken good for quest rewards that you should pretty much start off there if at all possible. I'm seriously using the stuff I got there into my 30s on my new necro. I hear bad things about Inq in the end game, but probably just forum ramblings that shouldn't be heeded. Might try Defiler, they're pretty $$$ as main tank healers in my experience. |

+1 Internets | Yes no matter what you start out as make your way to TD to start the early quests. Its not a bad run once you know it even as an elf. And the previous poster is correct...you'll continue to wear a lot of that gear until your 30's unless you're a fiend about upgrading to Mastercrafted items. |

I expressed my opinion on classes several times, so one more for you: among your 4 listed classes, pick warden, spec melee and have fun. Inquisitor takes quite a bunch of AA to become fun to play, SK is an ok tank for groups and ok at soloing, but not a good pick for raids (you won't get in). Mystic is a good healer, last I heard Defiler was better, but they are both slow as a snail when levelling due to letargic killing speed. Fury, Necromancer, Conjurer, Monk and Bruiser are the best soloers, Warden comes close, Inquisitor later on is decent albeit a tad slow. Levelling a fury in RoK was quite fun when I respecced to get Charm Animal ![]()

Cuase I really don't care about putting in some time at 10-20 levelling solely on quests. (AA gaining)...If thats why you have me shy away from Quiz. EDIT: I think its worth mentioning that I will be duo quite a bit with a Brig/Swash (its looking like right now, atleast. What my sister plans on playing..Atleast for levelling purposes.

Wardens can root the mob and backoff to heal up, proc heals with melee swings, faster casting heals, etc. but pretty much the whole playstyle comes alive with the same amount of AA. If you don't have access to easy mastercrafted gear every tier, wardens have it a bit better with root, but in the end, soloing nameds won't be very easy if you have to go in melee with average gear. That's why furies have it easier, snare, root, nuke the hell out of nameds without (hopefully) being touched. Oh... rare leather pelts for mastercrafted cost a LOT less than rare metal, at least in the mid tiers. If you are into it, level your crafting and pick the one that can make your amor pieces, being able to wear MCed armor is very nice for at least 70 levels. Inquisitors are an extremely funny class to play, so if that's what you prefer, don't have my druid-fondness distract you, I'm a tad biased when it's about treehugging vs anything else ![]()

| I created a Sarnak Necro, he's on hold at 53 while I play some AoC...but it's a lot of fun. The first 20 levels were fantastic in TD, and I got gear that I still use (well, only a few pieces at this point, but still)

+52 Internets | Nobody played EQ for the graphics even back then either. Treat it like going back and playing those old DOS games. Though I will yank it to some hot wood elf pyramid titties till the day I die. Their chests looked like a track for excitebike which turned me on even more. +1 Internets | I actually booted up EQ for the first time in almost 8 years the other day to do the whole 14-day free trial thing for EQ2. Big culture shock, considering that when I left EQ1 we weren't far removed from looking in our spellbooks to meditate, and we had finally killed off everything in Veeshan's Peak. Yeah, it's been that long. Whats up everybody? Outside of Millie and Faille, I'm not even sure who's left on these boards that might remember me. At any rate, /wave. Really interested in that "EQClassic" server there has been rumblings about. Why I'd sign up for that hamster-wheel torture again just to relive some nostalgia is beyond me. I'm assuming it's my mid-life crisis kicking before I turn 30. sigh. |

Progression was pretty fun. It ended as a big drama fest come velious (for the FoH Combine guild), but Kurnark was pretty legendary. Would be nice to have a slightly slower paced one again (because month lock outs meant rushing to fuck). Doubt it'll ever happen though.

| Somehow I remembered the log in and pw to the last of like 50 accounts I never managed to sell when I quit for good. Haven't touched the game since SoL era. I can't even remember what is left on this account but I think it was an iksar shaman on bertox w/ fungi tunic/fungi staff/misc twink stuff and like 50k plat. I hope it's not erased as I'm actually considering going through the game and seeing all the shit I missed from then till now. I also logged into that 14 day trial and it was pretty funny. My gf was like "You have to actually type to NPCs and trade them stuff?!" Then I buffed and all the nostalgia came back just from the music/sounds. I need to bring all the old EQ sounds into all the MMO's I played. |

Does anyone have the link handy that put in the old particle effects? I don't mind the new ones, but the graphics are over a decade old and any attempt to 'modernize' eq1 is completely out of place even if it isn't shit (which it mostly is). On that topic, isn't there a mod out there that replaces all the shitty new orc, goblin, skeleton and whatever else models?

| You need to delete a few of the files and bypass the patcher to launch the game, from the top of my head : SpellEffects Folder gequip5.s3d global6_chr.s3d spellsnew.eff spellsnew.edd and use a shorcut that ends with ("...eqgame.exe" patchme). Only issue is you need to redelete the files whenever there is a patch. That works for the spell effects mostly. For the old skeleton / elemental models I can't remember how it's done but I had it set up during the progression phase so it's definitely possible.
