First post, 4-year lurker.

For those still following EQ2, there is news today about the Voice Chat system that was announced previously. Apparently it is coming to Test server very soon.

Many details about the UI and voice channels

Some tidbits that came up in Autenil's replies:
  • Voice fonts (fat man sound like girl) will be added after release.
  • Proximity chat won't make it on release, but is a high-priority feature, sounds like Vivox must sort out some tech issues first.
  • The voice chat is hosted by Vivox servers, and uses a separate communication stream, and will use a separate CPU core.
  • Limit 100 people per normal channel, or 400 people per guild channel
  • Chat persists while zoning, but disconnects when you logout/crash.

Curse: In the same vein, finding groups can be difficult for returning players. What steps have been taken, and will there be further measures, to allowing reliable solo play for all classes when leveling up?

[rbarker]: We’ve actually just put some solo quests up on test that to help alleviate that specific problem. These quests are aimed at short play sessions or the time a player might spend LFG waiting for a group to come along. These quests can be completed once per day and will give better than average rewards for completion. We’re hoping these quests give players an opportunity to make some meaningful advancement even if they’re limited to short play sessions where getting a group can be especially difficult.
Interesting. . .

Ahh cool, as I learned today, newly activated accounts are not eligible for the free time. I had just started a new EQ2 account about a week or two before this began. Today I got the account closed message.

Fuck that.

Should've been done a while ago, hopefully it's slightly more interesting than tradeskilling.

Go on and steal the quest UI and camera system from the more modern MMO's while you're at it please.

That's an awesome first post, props.

Has any one that is currently playing EQ2 played a 70+ Necro? I was wondering if there has been any changes to the play style, or if all classes stayed the same and merely had a rank increase in their abilities.

I played a conjurer (among other classes), aside from the lvl 80 new spell, nothing really changed for me.

I don't think, except that, in my guild at least, necros parse very high, well ahead of conjurers. But less than assassins.

Wasn't there some issue with nec and conj pets sucking ass at 80 compared to their lower level versions?

Server Population

How is EQ doing on subscribers? Anyone have any idea what the average server population is like? Remember back in like velious when it would display how many are logged on to a server? Is there any talk of another server merger on the horizon?

I'm pretty clueless on this now as I've never zoned into anything beyond GoD, so even though I am playing right now I am sticking to everything up to velious + PoK/Bazaar. Which means I've no idea how many people are playing outside of doing a long chain of /who's. My impression is the servers are underpopulated and would love to see another merger to bolster the servers.

I miss being able to see how many people are actually on a server. I think Mythic/DAOC is one of the few games that's let you see that actual server numbers now.
