I saved my XP pots for groups.

1-54 on perma and I'd only used one pot.

Sigh. SO boring.

Buff timers don't count down in the Guild Hall/Guild Lobby, and lots of people MGB buffs there, so the GL is where everyone goes.

you have also to consider that most groups are not found anymore going around and shouting "who wants for a group". The LFG system works pretty well and usually its trough that you find ppl

The LFG system in EQ1 was designed by... Anyone? Anyone?

Our very own Gallenite.

Actually, the best way to lfg is to go to the level-appropriate hotzone and do "LFG"... that seems to work for me more often than not, on the times the wife doesn't want to play.

If you are not AB, better reroll there if you want groups. And these groups will start to come reliably only at level 30+ if you are not in a guild.
All classes can solo but the bards are really not good at it. Very good class if you want to raid but else better pick another.
Yeah, can't disagree with this. I was expecting the troubador's charm to be at least semi-reliable like the bard's charm in EQ and help with soloing. I was disappointed to say the least.

They nerfed troubadours like 50 times. I ended up quitting when they did a huge global nerf to CC. The troubadour got a raw deal, dunno how it is now, but charm used to have no reuse timer, and lullaby's reuse timer was only like 6 seconds. It didn't make you a solo machine, but you could get by.

They ended up giving both nasty re-use timers. Outright destroyed any hope of the class being useful aside from being a buff bot.

To heal yes. I play defiler.
Now it is fun if you are MT healer else I think it must be very boring (most of your spells are geared toward healing the tank, and group-wide not raid-wide).
Can solo heal all group content easily (but all healers can anyway).

For leveling solo...it is very very very slow as you have next to no DPS. You sure can stay alive indefinitely but you have to wait for the mob to die from old age. It is ok for me I like tactical fight but some can't handle it

I'm giving an Iksar Warden a shot now, seems like they could at least be viable melee while solo and also competent in groups, not sure how they compare to Furies though. I was also looking at Shadow Knights. I want something decent solo but also somewhat desirable in groups. Also cool that Iksar get stealth as a racial ability.

As it's been said above, most classes can solo (sept bards). Pretty much play whatever tickles your fancy, in the end it's that which will change how long you play the game.

Wardens can solo pretty well but are slower than furies, the heals are comparable with a slight advantage to wardens.
Wardens can AE root (2x with AA) and run like nobody else, so what you lose in killing speed is probably gained back in traveling speed. You also get evac, furies get invisibility.
If you can get AA fast, work on the STR line and the wardens line to boost your melee considerably and change your spells to melee attacks.
You can make a casting warden too, but there would be no point. If you like nuking, furies are way better.

Shadowknights: they can solo well, in fact very well, they can tank well and in groups they are ok, even if sometimes you'll struggle for agro. They are amazing for pulling large packs of mobs and AE'ing them all down.

Reinstalled EQ2 last weekend, and have decided to give it a fair shot this time. I rolled a Sarnak Assassin on AB, and the first 10 levels were more fun than I remembered. Althought most of the chat in the 1-9 channel is drivel, it is at least encouraging to see people active and playing. I originally started on Unrest, and even TD was a ghost town during EST prime-time.

Based on some of the commentary here, it sounds like melee DPS have it bad in terms of the sheer number of abilities they have to manage in combat. Do assassins have any utility other than simply the positional "pewpew" damage?

With WoW being so tired pre-WoTLK, I am hoping EQ2 can keep my attention for some time.
