Returning to eq for this stint has proven interesting since I went bst on FV (instead of my native xegony) so the lack of gear / folks makes it much harder more interesting.

Lol still wearing crap leather from PC at 20 so sad. Sugar daddies should hook a brotha up :P

I've been playing on the combine with a classic only guild, "The Forgotten Travelers" having an awesome time with them. There is almost always a group to be found for any level range too. I'd recommend joining up, can send a tell to anyone and look for an officer for an invite. The max level is 51 atm and we raid the old planes + naggy/vox. (Once people hit 51 they turn aa xp on but don't spend them)

I'm Kyriloz in-game.

Hm? EQPlaynice used to be a HUGE boon to multiboxing on the same computer, since it downgraded the performance of background windows to around 15FPS (still plenty enough to see what's going on and autofollow, but saves a ton of processing power). Customizable if you want a higher/lower background rate.

I've heard it doesn't play nice (heh) with speedstep, though. I think that's the name, it's the function that clocks down your processor when load reduces, typically stock enabled on laptops and some desktops. Check BIOS. Definitely disable it on a desktop, it's near useless there. Might want to turn it back on when working from battery on the laptop.

EQplaynice used to work fine while boxing until 1 1/2 years ago with an eq update.

Is that equipment claim in EQ1 a one-shot deal? I was thinking of rolling a wizard to get back into it, but I'd like to play my monk again too. I don't want to waste the claim on some level 20 goober if I only get one.

Yes the /claim equiptment is one shot. There is also something like 6? levels of the gear ranging from 20 to 75, and while I don't know it for a fact, I'm guessing you get the level gear appriopriate for you. I claimed with my 65 Necro (for the highest set of gear), and it appears to *not* give you pieces you already have. As a hint, buy all the pieces but the BP, Legs, and whichever other piece is most expensive, then claim. I got a full set that way very cheaply. Add on to that dropable (Bazaar bought) gear from the new expansion, and you can get some crazy nice foci/mod2s/etc. If only there were other people to play with.

Fury is just a great class, I loved it, both doing healing and damage was fun for me. I quite liked also conjurors, they had a lot less hotkeys to push as the pet was doing half of the job.
It's the tanks that have it bad for button mashing, my SK was on a constant clicking different hotkeys, among them 7 or 8 AE combat arts/spells (and I guess melee dpsers have it bad too, never played one past 45).

If it gives you pieces you don't have, shouldn't you just not buy any? Or does it only give you like a random 4-5 slots or something?

It just has the visible slots iirc, most EQ armour sets are made up that way. So the total would be 1 BP, 1 Arms, 1 Legs, 2 Wrists, 1 Head, 1 Hands and 1 Feet. Conventional wisdom would have you buy the 2 wrists, hands, feet and arms leaving the BP, legs and head as they tend to be the dearest.

Total noob question here but I fired up the EQ account this morning on my pally and after wondering why the fuck I logged out in ST I decided to try moving. What the shit... no W A D movement, I have to use the Arrow Keys. I don't ever remember remapping a single key in EQ other than the default auto attack that used to get you raped if you fucked up when talking to npcs. Is there a way to remap the movement keys?

And why the fuck can't I look around with my mouse?

You can remap it to WASD if you so desire, but it gets strange after a while. For some reason EQ works better with the arrow keys.

Also, hit F12 for mouselook.

Using the cursor keys I feel like I should be using my right hand though which means taking it off the mouse which in turn makes me break into a sweat. Can you tab target cycle in EQ yet? I vaguely remember something like that being in when I quit but it only targetted the nearest mob or some shit. I mean, is it possible to play without the mouse? I just had a flashback of looking around with the numpad...

Yes. First thing I did was change to WASD and make "Cycle through nearest npc's" tab.
