Yeah, I think it took me longer to download beta than the amount of time I spent in game before uninstalling.

When everything was said and done, Utnayan was right.

Its interesting how memories fade .... Most of the people he "battled" weren't fanbois, rather they were people who were interested in VG and wanted to have civil, rational discussions about it and also wanted to find out information about the game as it developed. Sure, many were hopeful they would enjoy the game ..... that doesn't make you a fanboi. of course, there were a few fanbois, naturally, who no matter what were convinced VG was going to be the greatest thing ever.

What Utnayan did during VG's development was derail every single thread about VG with venomous post and after post after post about how bad the game was, would be no matter what, and how much he hated Sony and Brad .... to the point that things like the grievances from the Luclin EQ release were brought up. It became its own sort of theatre, to the detriment of this board frankly.

In the end, he and others who prediced the game would be a failure were correct (in my opinion), and kudos for that prediction. That said, that prediction could have been made a couple of times and left for history to validate. Making it 100's of times as part of a personal crusade to shout down any non-negative discussion about VG on this board during its development was nothing to be proud of regardless of its accuracy in the end.

This.

The beta held my attention for about 30 minutes before it was quite clear how shitty this game was.

You have a point, he was a abit of a pain but like 15 people posting replies to him and it all turning into a gigantic shitfest almost instantly was not his fault alone by any means. I always read his replies, smirked, nodded or disagreed here and then and then i had to wade trough the tons of shitty replies who turned it into an eyesore. Thats what ruined it for me and made VG threads a real pain.

Thats why i said "fanbois", to poke at all the people who had their triggers and buttons pushed like a reflex as soon he appeared. My god, it was like a soap opera. Gimme a break.

On the other hand Ut doesn't bother sitting around and bashing VG in threads these days and hasn't AFAIK bashed VG in a long time (he had a good I told you so back in May 2007 when SOE bought Sigil) -- I assume he just doesn't give a shit two years on. Yet another point in his favor. Commenting more on Brekk and Foofy and Arax here -- for fuck's sake guys -- you haven't played the game in almost two years. It's just so fucking bizarre -- it'd be like me bitching about WoW BGs in some WoW thread today - haven't played that game in more than two years. I have issues with VG (as does the OP) but they're issues with the game today not with a beta in December 2006.

It's pretty fucking retarded so here's hoping this thread hits the rickshaw.

It's all about context Tad - as in, it just took playing the beta and possessing common sense to know the game would suck. Shitty products have a way of making their way to the bargain bin, this rules applies regardless of how many noble intertron warriors there are out there, fighting the good fight and taking notes.

It's all about timing. Tens of thousands of people have played the game since beta and enjoyed it -- now thousands of those have left for various reasons (I'll randomly pick two): lack of any endgame content back in April/May 2007; lack of new endgame content now May/June 2008. Of course tens of thousands of people didn't enjoy the game because of various reaons (I'll randomly pick two: bugs, crappy battle animations) and left well w/n the free month or like y'all in beta.

I don't care if you hate the game I do get annoyed with choading up thread with weird year+ old spazms. The OP was bitching about a specific problem: GU5. There were various random tangents and then suddenly we get generic Nov-Dec 2006 VG bashing where someone couldn't possible enjoy the game despite the fact that the aforementioned tens of thousands have, believe it or not, enjoyed VG. I'm like fuck did I just walk into a time machine?

You are supporting this garbage, so what the fuck is this post for?

I suggest you not pay for garbage, and maybe this industry won't keep churning it out.

You working on a game that has a VG-like monk class, a race akin to the Raki (badgers maybe?), offensive and defensive targeting, allows me to cast while moving, Xenn jump boots & Lev cloak, lots of shit to explore that even after a year I can still now and then find something new, and a guild full of people I like?

If not then fuck off.
