| The whole 2D vs 3D thing is kind of confusing. I'm having a hard time picturing how it would work. Whatever they do, I hope they're not overly ambitious with it; that's a great way for little projects like this to fall apart. Just deliver something stable and fun and enough people will hang around to justify the investment. The best model for casual MMOs is Puzzle Pirates: simple game, barely even 3D, but fun as hell if you're into that sort of thing, and still successful as far as I know. Check it out if you haven't; I think there's a free trial. |

+2 Internets | The problem is MV folks are trying to develop an engine and a game at the same time, and the engine is going to be free for most developers. They are funding backed and a great group of guys ( I presented my game demo on the MV platform earlier this year at GDC in their booth, so I'm hugely greatful to them). I think this might be a good idea especially if they borrow from some of the more complete projects using their engines (like Lunar Quest, Sinners and Saints, Islands of War, etc.). A good idea in that starting on a simpler game is best before moving on to a full on MMO. That's certainly the issue my team ran into, we got the initial demo up and running in six months then hit a brick wall of confusion, team issues and figuring out just "what to do next". |
