+16 Internets | Conan hate aside, as has been stated, the game is pretty good until about 50. The Tortage noob island was very fleshed out, and the initial dungeons are pretty good too (especially Black Castle and Black Pyramid since their revamp). Around 50ish is when the quests become few and far between, and you're forced to grind/run villas alot. The dungeons 50+ are also tuned like shit. They can't be safely run in many cases by the intended levels (hi2u main system). The late game is a complete mess. Kesh is the only real option late game for a non-instanced zone, but it's gank town. The guild cities take an insane amount of mats for tier 3. Sieges are still wonky. Funcom has done nerf after nerf to make the game more tedious, or kneejerked to solve a big problem but in the end it hurts everyone (gems). Raiding is lackluster. And there's still no meaningful PVP.

+2 Internets | I quit after reaching level 30. 20-30 was already a borefest. It's weird, because at first, everything looks good. The world simply looks great. The world design (as far as looks go, at least) is the best in any MMO so far. It feels pretty real. The cities are especially nice. Tortage was very well-made and pretty interesting. Unfortunately, it has absolutely zero replayability for me. It's very story-driven, which works great the first time. They'd have needed a couple newbie zones. I would have paid for a second month. Another problem is that after Tortage, it immediately goes stale. You grow used very fast to the full (and very good) quest voice over. Losing that after Tortage is brutal. The game might have been better of with no voice over at all. I also really didn't like the combat system. Sounds fun on paper. It is kinda fun for 10 minutes. And then it's simply annoying. My biggest gripe, though, is the class design. All of them sound boring, and as far as my experience go, are boring to play. For the record, I played a Guardian (with 2 friends) to 30 and a PoM and a Necro solo to 15-20. I can't think of a single thing Vanguard did better than AoC (except class design) but I actually had much more fun in VG. |

| I thought the game was good until maybe 60. I absolutely loved the combat system, positioning to hit the most mobs, fighting 4 things at once was cool and i liked it better than one mob at a time like wow. But like everyone says, the game runs out of good content pretty fast and while the grind of 80 was short enough to be tolerable with a group of friends there is just nothing to do at 80 either. Funcom dropped the ball and wasted time making a raid game and didnt have enough to finish pvp.. i dont think the game they made and the game their audience wanted were as in sync as they should have been, they were still trying for a traditional pve heavy mmo. City siege was a cool concept executed poorly and in a broken way.. i still am sad about conan, the game really was good except for a few things that the managers just dont seem to have identified even now. As to voice overs, i totally agree first time i left tortage in beta i thought my volume was muted because i was so used to voiceovers. |
