Video card sounds like it feeds off your system RAM (up to 1500~ video ram?), which is very bad. Plus it's an 8400, it's at the bottom of the barrel for pushing pixels and bandwidth. Harddrive is 5400 rpm makes for slow load times, and maybe a good deal of hitching because the game likes to load a lot of high quality textures and eye candy while you're running around. | I tried so hard to like this game. I really did. I made it to nearly 50 with a couple friends leveling together on and off (as a Demonologist). My two issues: Everything is either extremely powerful or extremely gimp. As a 41 demonologist a 23 ranger hit me for 85% of my health first shot. GG. Oh and casting 11 buffs every time I die is sweet. Interface is equivalent to man tits. The graphics are good though. I'll come back in 6 months and see how they did. EDIT: Oh and one more thing, did anyone notice that while it is cool for the game to be so big and huge and zones are big blah blah, it makes it so that -- especially in cities -- you NEVER SEE OTHER PEOPLE. Okay, you'll see other people at boat zone-ins and at quest hubs, but that's about it. I mean we're at launch and running through Greece or whatever the Aquilonian city is is like running through a fucking ghost town. Last edited by Presarc : 06-05-2008 at 12:30 AM. |

I myself won't start criticizing crazy shit until I at least give them a chance to tune the game. You are a cloth class and should be naturally weak. A strength of demonologists is being ranged, thus while fighting another range that naturally negates one of your strengths. It is known that mages are pretty weak, so Funcom stated they're adding additional changes to demos and necros. If you dislike class imbalance, playing FFA PvP on the release of a new MMO isn't exactly wise. If, in the end, you find you absolutely loathe dying often and quick in PvP, and hate casting an obscene amount of buffs, you should just: 1)Reroll a Soldier class on PvP for longevity and low amount of buffs, if any. 2)Reroll PvE and accept that if you die on PvE it's your own fault, while casting 11 buffs after death is your own personal punishment. Ghost towns in the capital? Give funcom a fucking break. God forbid that people want to level and enjoy the quest, zones, harvesting, and other interesting content. The trader holds little of any importance to myself at the moment, once I get into harvesting / crafting I think that's going to change. I don't notice this problem of Old Tarantia being a ghost town, I see plenty enough people in the Aquilonia capital. P.S: I don't get what's so wrong with the interface. No problems for me. | Well herein lies one of my biggest issues with the game. For whatever reason, I can't stand clicking on my abilities, so I've ALWAYS used numbers keys, macros and shortcuts, etc, for any MMO that I've played. While AoC's combat system is innovative and very unique, and frankly pretty cool, the fact that 3 seperate buttons (yes I know it's 5 but it doesn't matter) are all mapped to normal melee is irritating to me. Maybe I just have to get used to it, I don't know, but over the years I've gotten so used to auto-attack that it's just taking me some adjusting, hence why I chose a mage class. In terms of 'give Funcom a fucking break because their shit is desolate in terms of population,' I'm not really even blaming Funcom per se. It's the fact that one AoC zone is the size of an entire continent in WoW (where I think we can all agree the sociality of every server is at least somewhat present). It's not that people are doing quests or blah, it's the fact that even if they were all in the city, it would still be a ghost town. This is such a minor thing to bitch about though, and really it's a non-issue. It's just an immersion thing. I don't like seeing 10,000 npcs for every 1 player in a city -- that's just me. Old Tarantia is probably the size of 10+ stormwinds or probably 3-4x the size of PoK. It is just huge. And thanks for informing me that PvE servers didn't have world PvP, why didn't I think of that? Why would someone who wants to play a mage play on a PvP server? CRAZY! Trust me, I have pretty thick skin when it comes to PvP, but when someone half my level is tearing me a new anus, I just think it's interesting. So why don't I just play on a PvE server? Because they end up dead later on in comparison to PvP servers, and forgive me, but I'd rather play on an active server than either A) Have to transfer or B) Get fucked. Bottom line: I'll see ya in 6, when they've ironed out all the kinks. If they haven't ironed out all the kinks, then they're bad at development and good at graphics. |

| I have no idea what you are talking about Presarc. I see a LOT of people. Old Tarantia, Noble District, Keshatta, there's a TON of people everywhere. PS - About being shot by huge damage by a Ranger, rogue classes are the counter to cloth classes... there are some balance changes that need to be made, but you need to come to terms that you WON'T be 50/50 against every class in the game in 1v1. |

Old Tarantia isn't THAT big. I'd say it's about the size of 1 and a half Ironforges at most. There's the dock, and to the south the meat of a city which is just a circle about as big as IF, and then 3 ways to exit the city on foot to other zones. So you're saying that you're going PvP because you think you have to? Six month is a fair enough time. Good bye.

| So after two weeks, what do you guys think of the game so far? A few of my friends have already quit others have stayed. I know the game is pretty and all but does it seem like a good game at or near the level cap? is pvp/pve meaningful? what about the city building |

+5 Internets | It's unfinished, what can we say. It has potential. It's about as deep as a pool in a frisbee at the moment. There's 1-2 months of entertainment depending on activity level, hopefully more when the cities fully evolve. It's a good game at the core though. |

I would suggest picking the game up and playing through the level process at least. The way to 80 is more then worth the box price and a free month of play. That way even if you take a break while they "finish" the game you will have a max char ready to rock and roll. I don't regret buying the game at all. They have already done some good things and have announced some huge updates like the item patch and adding more content in.

The hardware requirements do somewhat bother me, and not because I'm just jonesing for a new box. Code optimization is a very real and great thing, it just takes talent and more time. I believe pretty much any game you can go back through make changes that effect performance, just most companies won't do it. Writing shit lazy code and just expecting constant consumer upgrading is some lame shit. I mean for fucks sake, this guy did a full graphics w/sound demo on an ATmega88 microcontroller: Craft <---Really just bad ass video. That little chip controlling your microwave? Well he demo'd with it. Seriously, fuck lazy coding. I mean with how much this game wants, then you see Cryengine 2 running solid and pretty on a $600 box, something is wrong.
