WoW was sort of the same, except it took longer and involved 3-4 more disabling attacks

DAOC, well, I was there briefly on release, and we all remember the invisible one shotting archers

I may just start a SIN if I play this, sick of being on the other side of the fence
The problem is some games don't give you an option out of it. With WoW, there are about 6 trinkets and some inate abilities that allow you to break out of an uncontrollable lock. Problem is, most people get freaked out and get pissed off and forget about it. PvP in MMORPG's is about calming down, making sure you are focused, and using the abilities that you have to overcome the other class.

Not sure what it is like in WAR. I know in DAOC is was broken as shit, since me, Kaubel, and about 6 other mid's took out over 100+ Albions at the mid mile once when they all clumped together and an AE stun went in and we killed them all because they couldn't move. Now THAT was broken. But still hilarious (At least on our side)

You can dload the 3gb closed beta > open beta patch, or the 9gig open beta client.

Almost a deal breaker for me, playing WoW again has convinced me it is by far the most retarded mechanic to exist in a PvP game.

There is perma stealth because the cool downs allow staggering different abilities. Two classes have a "see through the basic version" of stealth which are on 10 min cool downs if i'm not mistaken.

While you're right on the perma stealth, it's not because of different cooldowns.

Rangers have Hide 1, it's a random duration 30-50s ability, -40%speed reduction, cooldown 1min. It can be detected by Rangers, Sins and Sorcerer, and also by some consumables.

Assassins have Hide 2, same duration/cooldown, -20%speed, but it can only be detected by sins and rangers.

Then sins also get a stigma that is the same as Hide2, but with 5mins duration. That's how they stealth permanently, even though in theory they can alternate hide 1 and hide2 without the stigma, but with mitigated results(when you cast hide it pops in the combat log of everyone in range and you dehide/rehide so you go visible for ~4secs in a stealth translucid form).

Also as you said, the detect are only 30secs with a 10mins cooldown, so while you can find assassins that you KNOW are around, it doesn't do too much good. It's as bad, or worse than wow. In wow, if you managed to get a rogue out of stealth before the opener, you actually had an advantage. In Aion, stealthing is only a mechanic to get closer to people unnoticed, there's no actual bonus to stealthing like openers and stuff, so getting a sin out of stealth isn't particularly useful unless you can do it at range(with a lucky detect).

Yea, WoW was good about putting in reactive fixes (trinket, my pally's BoF)

WAR as always, implements something that noone wants, a trinket like effect, but with a huge cooldown and wont cancel out your current CC, so you're supposed to predict when the invisible man will pistol whip you :P

The thing I like about Aion is that from what I've seen combat lasts longer, you actually get to use abilities. Aion will definitely be the next MMO I'm focusing on.

Aionsource has the worst threads I've seen in a long time on a game board. Yesterday I noticed in the recent posts thing on the front page a thread that was like "If you were the opposite sex for 24h, what would you do" and I saw it there like 3different times which meant it was actually getting bumped. I didn't even want to see what the content looked like, but this kind of stupid threads popping is pretty common. And then you have the polls. "Elyos or Asmodian girls, which is the sexiest, let's have a new original poll".

Fucking cesspool of retardation.

It was a fun game besides the horrible buffing sessions, even though it didn't have that much depth and was more akin to an action game than an actual mmo.
The buffing got better as they streamlined the taper system and upgraded all buffs to 1 hour. Was still annoying but not game breaking, in fact it added an element to the game, albeit a slightly annoying one. I have to disagree about the depth part though. AC's itemization was the best I've seen in any MMO to this day, including WOW. The monthly content updates were also awesome If you actually gave a shit about the lore and progression of the games "story".

And live server events were unforgettable for me, I still remember when the shadows attacked Wei-Jou near the disaster maze. There were like literally hundreds of orange dots on radar, accompanied by horrible lag. Was a blast though.

/end nostalgic rant
