Well Aion will be released here 11months after the original korean release, so that's plenty of time. If you meant until you see if people stick/quit the game, I guess I see the point but at the same time PvP games are somewhat sucky when you start them late because you get ganked 24/7 at that point ^^.

Yes, Aion is already successful.

Well, if WoW is going keep moving in the same direction like now, Aion and Guildwars 2 are the only MMO titles I could see myself investing in. I just hope they give Aion the support it requires, they screwed up with L2.

The benefit of living in a small country is that you can quite easily find a guild to help you ^^

Or if you have a job, a wife, a family, friends or anything to do besides poopsock. PVP games should not be LVL based IMO, go back to skill based PVP-MMOG's like UO.

Or you know, PvP games aren't really catered to the casual gamer.

And you know, this is why PvP games fail.

Nah. Let me fix his posting so you can see the real reason PvP games fail:

I mean seriously. Good PvP games are good because they require skill and the good players will always win and the bad players always lose. Rock-Paper-Scissors and dice rolls being used might help the mediocre/bad players abit, but in the end they are doomed to lose.

Obviously it cannot be that successful. It has nothing to do with playing casual or not.

No, I'd say that's about right. It's quite obvious that people like getting online and facing other people but they prefer to do it when one player playing nonstop for 3 months doesn't have a significant advantage over someone who plays a few times a week.

I.E. FPS games, RTS games, etc. Those games are hugely successful because you can hop on WC3 and get a DOTA game going and it doesn't matter if Enemy_guy19289 has played 40 DOTA matches that day already. You still start on relatively equal footing and skill wins. Not his 5 +10 enchanted souldgodstone what the fuck evers.

The moment you give someone with much more time exponentially more power is the moment you destroy PvP for people who otherwise may participate and might actually be decent at it but lack the raw numbers to show it.

This is basic shit. Maybe you should just go back to macroing in Darkfall.

You come up with a skill based system that doesn't require macro programs and I'll give it a shot till then no way, but as it stands any skill based system like UO or Darkfall turns into a macro-program fest. Eve(CCP) it seems is the only one to get it right when it comes to a skill based system.

Even easier, all abilities do a flat % of enemy health in damage. Gear does not come into play in PvP at all. Pretty much solves 90% of the problems with PvP in MMO's these days. Then just make sure that players have new area's to fight in on a regular basis to keep it fresh. Toss in gimmick encounters that force players to think in different ways to succeed and you have pretty much a winner.

Sounds like any other FPS.

God help me for saying so, but SWG's skill-based system was not too far off the mark (though it did have issues). I'd like to see a game with a more polished version of that kind of system.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpouse then of what a MMo is trying to be. Plenty of FPS games out there that already deliver that kind of system. With the exception you don't have a few hundred people running around on a BF2142, TF2, CoD style map. Personaly I like the blend that MMo's offer removing gear would just dumb it down to the typical FPS type system or have some kind of penalty system like TF2 does with its upgrade gear making you decide which way to go, which is totaly situational.
