Hmm last beta I played, I think it was warhammer? Gamestop was cancelling the beta keys if you cancelled the preorder, or something like that. Most of the time they don't bother though. However, nothing stops you from preordering, playing, then cancelling it once the beta weekends are over, you can cancel online stuff until it's shipped anyway. So yeah no issue with preordering, I've had my gamestop key for a while now, they sent them after the first weekend was over if you ordered during the weekend like I did.

yeah I pre-ordered LOTRO and got the beta key then played for a bit and cancelled, so I reckon it'll work the same for this game

Update: We've just seen a revised beta schedule, with more closed beta events stretching into August. It runs as follows:

* June 19th to 22nd: Closed beta, Asmodian faction levels 1-10
* July 2nd to 6th: Closed beta, Asmodian faction levels 1-20
* July 17th to 20th: Closed beta, Elyos and Asmodian levels 1-25
* July 31st to August 3rd: Closed beta, TBC
* August 14th to August 17th: Closed beta, TBC

No word on the open beta dates, but since it was due to start on 14th August, we assume it's been pushed back a little

I called Amazon (because I didn't get my key yet) and they said the keys are sent out 3 days before the beta. Since I didn't order until yesterday, I'm sol for the June 19th one.

Well this weekend is a pretty shitty one, 1-10 is really gay, you can't test any class since the real classes/flying start at 9(or 10 whatever it is). So not missing much. I'm interested in seeing their bullshit localization stuff that takes so long to make however, I guess I'll be eating burgers to replenish health instead of ramen.

You aren't going to miss much. If you really want, just play EQ2 from level 1 to 10 and it's basically the same thing just with much better animations.

I felt a lot of similarities with Runes of Magic while playing Aion, not sure if that's a good thing...

And yes, EQ2 seems a good comparison, although I think that EQ2 is more complete (graphics in Aion are nice though)

Im conflicted. A few of the previews, notably the You Tube video that shows off the classes, make the game look pretty snazzy. On the other hand the PVP arena videos make it look like yet another Guildwars clone.

Maybe I'll go get the pre-order thingy and just try it.

Make sure to call them before hand. Some of them are running out quickly and yes you can cancel a preorder. You can even transfer it to another preorder if ya like or use it to buy another game.
